I am making some assuptions with making thsi post. The Torpedoes which the x-wing fires seem to be really small (physical size wise) and likely do not have the yield that a much larger missile might have. How about designing a gunboat / heavy starfighter similar in concept to the old Wing Commander Broadsword bomber and develop a large anti-ship missile. The concept is nothing new , look at many of the Russian anti-shipping missiles like the Kingfisher missile and the Backfire Bomber.

They've been used in the EU, to help allow starfighters to knock out heavy capital ships. I imagine that they're somewhat impractical against some of the other, more advanced ships from the Galaxy proper.
With regards to the Broadsword idea, the K-Wing is basically a POS that's ripped straight out of Wing Commander. Needless to say, it was never mentioned outside of a trilogy I'd like to forget.

The K-Wing was a quite capable bomber and the BFC had a lot of potential. He just fucked it up.
I would rather have seen all fighters properly utilized rather than bring back the damn X-Wing. That includes the K-Wing.

The Imperial Missle Boat uses large anti-capship missles. Although WEG claims that its payload can kill a Star Destroyer (
), this is WEG here--creater of some of the most ridiculously falscious SW info ever. Its role is more likely used in tandem with capship broadsides to eliminate small, concetrated sections of shielding, or damaging a ship after a section of shielding drops. Invented in TIE Fighter, it was an anti-fighter platorm used to kill the uber fighter TIE Defender.

Which means its primary design purpose was to be a big anti-fighter missile platform to simply overwhelm the superior dogfighter of the TIE/D.

Correct, it was an upgraded Cygnus Spaceworks XG-1 Starwing Assault Gunboat armed with a single laser cannon, a tractor beam projector and four concussion missile tubes with twenty missiles each (two in the hull and two in external pods mounted on top).

Comparing the two fighters, I'd say the XM-1
Novawing is not a modification of the
Starwing design- they started on a clean slate.

I wonder if you could fix hardpoints for more missiles/missle packs on the Missile Boat.

Those launchers in the hull on either side of the cockpit are supposed to be restricted to only carrying "advanced concussion missiles", fast, maneuverable anti-fighter warheads.
The shoulder-mounted ones are versatile, and I wouldn't be surprised if they could come off and be replaced by entirely different launchers if need be.

Nice. The high-res pics do indeed look quite distinct; the lower-res ingame models aren't nearly as clear.
