I think most/all fighters probably have modular weapons bays.

Weapons on hardpoints and modular weapons are good. They extend the power of a fighter. Too many warheads make a fighter slow and unresponsive. It delivers it's load in the first few seconds of combat, drops the pods and is fast and light again. In this way, the fighters can fulfill their primary role (dogfighting) and still deliver devastating bomb loads.

Therefore, it would make a lot of sense to have modular weapons bays.

That really depends on how quickly it can launch the warheads. For those seconds that it uses to establish a lock and fire, the starfighter is very vulnerable.

hehe Yeah I suppose it's time for the former XWAU public relations guy to pimp: Get the XWAU and improve your XWA experiance! Seriously, if your computer is above 1Ghz in speed, I don't see no reason not to upgrade to the better graphics of the XWAU. Sorry about being a bit off topic, that just kind of slipped.

Enhanced X-Wing

I've always fancied having an X-wing with four wing-tip concussion missiles (in similar mountings to the Sidewinder/AMRAAM rails on the F-16 and F-18 wingtips). If I understand correctly, the concussion missile is optimised for fighter-vs-fighter actions while the proton torpedo is an attack weapon. This would increase the flexibility of the X-wing as a multi-role fighter.

BTW - I think that Kanos' XX-Wing (eXtended X-Wing) in Crimson Empire II seems to be a civilian version of the fighter with a passenger cockpit (which could probably also be used as a cargo bay) and no warhead launchers. Correct me if I'm wrong. :)

I XWA I once replaced the blaster cannons on an X-wing with unlimited ammo, superfast fire concussion missiles. They could be dumbfired, or locked onto a target.

Oh, yes, and that's quite realistic. :p

No, but it was really fun.
