Anti-Star Wars Campaign (gimme your feelings)

Post by THEHOOLIGANJEDI »

Here is something I posted at the starwars.com around the time after AOTC came out, just showing my utter contempt for Studios and single-minded critics:

"I don't know maybe its me but it seems to that there is an anti-Star Wars campagn going on in Hollywood. Big Hollywood and the evil studios seem to hype up Star Wars movies (GL spends very Little on advertising, I believe) and then broadcast negative reviews all over (BTW, I think the critics are in cahoots). It seem that they are trying to set up GL and ultimately Star Wars for a huge fall. Now EP 1 and 2 were not perfect they were very enjoyable and great films, but they had their flaws. I don't know gimme you feelings on this."

Well there it is. I also think that people who also just have and ax to grind with Star Wars have grown since the OT came out, b/c there were very few if any out there. 25 years has made that grow subtantially. Well all I have to say about those pathetic douche bags is FUCK YOU and to quote Mr. Garrison, "YOU GOT TO HELL!! YOU GO TO HELL AND YOU DIE!!!!!! It's just a movie.

In my opinion anyone who makes a living watching movies and talking about them does not deserve to breathe the same air I do.

And most of them are morons to begin with, and like only the movies the industry tells them to.

They always bashed the originals anyways. Fuck em, every time you hear what someone thinks about movies they can never come up with a straight logical answer. Always some bullshit about deeper meanings.

I agree with Mr. B. Its bullshit. There is that old joke, those who can't - teach.

In movies it's the same, those who can't - critique.

Fuck them. The movies do what they were designed to do: Entertain. Anyone who thinks otherwise is an idiot.

Bad reviews are always drowned out by big box office hauls. I think all of the SW movies have been vindicated in that regard.

Then, there are shitty movies like The English Patient that makes tons of money for no understandable reason...

Just look at Titanic. What was so good about that movie? So the guy died. Big deal. People die all the time. Live with it.

At the end of the day Lucas says jump Hollywood asks how high? His movies still reach high levels of box office success and that's all that matters to Hollywood.

Have you stopped to think that these critics may genuinely think that the last few Star Wars movies weren't very good? It's not impossible y'know. It's much more likely than a great big conspiracy to bring down Star Wars.

Anyway, most of the reviews I've read seemed to be fair. I remember when the SE came out that the movies were generally given five stars and such.

Just because they are a trekky doesn't mean that they hate star wars. I didn't know anything about the star trek vrs star wars before I came to this site a few years ago and didn't even think about star wars vrs star trek. Now thats just bring prejudice :D

I am no longer a fan of Roger Ebert for the panning he gave AotC. I even sent him "The Symbolism of Star Wars," but he sent me this form e-letter thanking me for his interest in the show. Fat bastard.

Anyway, I cannot believe that the critics could dislike AotC. I think they're just out to stop GL from making as much money as possible. And I'm sorry, I simply cannot believe that Spiderman is better than AotC on ANY level. I even read a review comparing the two movies that eventually branched into comparing them both to The Fellowship of the Ring, and the MORONIC critic claimed that the plot for Fellowship was "thread bare." What the hell is he on? No wonder the critics panned AotC. I have now lost all respect for movie critics. If there is a new book that is half as symbollic as AotC was, and a book critic did not catch that, he would be FIRED. The fact that the movie industry has allowed the critics to become so blind to deeper levels (and they all claim SW is a popcorn thriller), tells me that the average critic is a complete idiot who is totally unqualified to tell me where to spend my money. For shame.

AOTC was a good movie, however, I think GL could have afforded to pay a few actors to wear *real* clonetrooper armor. There were a few scenes that could have benefitted from that. The computer graphics were good for the long distance shots, but not for the upclose shots of the clonetroopers. When I was watching the movie I was longing for the days of real actors in stormtrooper armor.

Yes, even the stormtroopers that had trouble with doors. :) Seriously, though, I don't it was out of GL's reach to have used some real actors for the clonetroopers every once in a while.

Read this excellent article on the anti-prequel Nazis. I found it life-affirming.

And I just read the EW article; can someone please explain to me what the hell is so difficult to understand about "Trade Federation" and "viceroy"? Let's take a look.

"Trade Federation."

An organization of some sort, involved in business. Composed of several different entities, hence the word Federation. To the uninformed viewer, it is not difficult to imagine what it might be; a business corporation, a regulatory body, there are a number of possibilites.

"Viceroy."

I'm sorry that you didn't pay attention during history. Don't blame GL.

While I was greatly disapointed with TPM, and I generally like ATOC although I don't feel it was up to the originals, the critics were, as usual, way off.

The same thing happened with Lord of the Rings at the Oscars. You can't seriously tell me that Russel Crow peice of crap was better, and Ian McKellen (SP) not winning best supporting actor was ludicrous. That's just the way things work, though. Fantasy NEVER wins anything, and Sci-FI rarely does much better, since they arn't "serious" genres of cinema.

Gandalf's speech to Frodo in Moria about pity was so much better than anything in "A Beautiful Mind" that any comparison is ridiculous. And I don't mean to attack "A Beautiful Mind." I thought it was a great movie. But it certainly was not a movie at the same caliber as "The Fellowship of the Rings." Sorry, but they got ripped off.
