I read somewhere that slave rigging was a way of automating a ship to have a smaller crew. A WEG supplement I saw used a Dreadnought as a example. The normal crew was 16,024 but with slave rigging crew was reduced to 2,024. The WEG supplement said the Republic had built a fleet of 200 Dreadnoughts that were slave rigged but the project was abandoned after the fleet had disappeared. Apparently, the crews of the ships had died after contracting some kind of disease and they slave rigged all the ships together causing the disappearance of the fleet.
Does anyone know what the full benefits and disadvantages of slave rigging were?

The Fleet was called *The Dark Force it was recovred by Thrawn and roughly twenty years later.
The Advantage of the Full-Slave riggin is bascily centerilisation. IE one Big Computer Core through which everything is proccesed allowing faster responce time and of course less crewers
However that makes it more Vurable to battle damage and the like for example the reason the Dread's required so many crew is because like on ISDs each gun was CREW controled because while saying FIRE from the bridge is all nice if you have a guy behind the gun to push the button and aim the gun rather than slave control is going to be faster/more accurate, have somone right there to repair the gun if somthing screws up
So in sumation is Faster/Easier to Control but much more prone to Battle Damage and less accurate overall

The Dreanauts were the Katana Fleet aptly named 'Dark Force'. Hence the book name Dark Force rising, where after many years, possibly thirty, Thrawn manages to discover the fleet and begin capturing the ships, using clones to crew them. However, unbeknownst to Thrawn, Talon Karrde smuggler and information gather has discovered the fleet long before anyone else. Aiding the New Republic, he gave the location and they ran upon an Imperial operation that had already capture many ships of the fleet.

Not to mention Zahn obviously stole the title from Clancy

Slave rigging is also used by Lando and his miners on Nkllon. The goal is to slave a hyperspace capable ship to a shield ship and then have both jump to hyperspace. In that manner, the shield ship can still protect the smaller vessel from the star around which Nkllon orbits. The Falcon did not have a system to allow it to slave itself, so it was forced to go the far slower, sub-light manner of travel to the planet.
