TL Types

I'm certain that there are plenty of people here who have delved deeper into turbolaser nature than I. I would like some input on my haphazardly put together overview of TL types:
Turbolaser Cannon
---------------------
A single-barreled turbolaser, usually light but sometimes heavy.
Dual/Twin Turbolaser Cannon
---------------------------------
Double-barreled turbolaser, the majority of light guns.
Quad Turbolaser
-------------------
This is what you could call a medium size TL.
Turbolaser Battery
--------------------
Several TL turrets with multiple barrels, operating together. On a Star Destroyer, it is three turrets with a total of 8 barrels. The heaviest type.

Doh, I'm that boring eh?
Well, I have another question. Where and when did the name Executor originate? In the movies, it's only called "command ship, star destroyer, super star destroyer."

They were advised to cut the name as it would scare young children(supposedly)

That was Kenner, right? But where does the name Executor first appear officially?

Quad Turbolaser

Only present on the Imperator I-class. In the brim trench.
Turbolaser Battery
-------------------
Imperator-II is much more heavily armed. It has 64 barrels (two batteries of eight octuple-barrel turrets) rather than just sixteen (or eighteen if you include the two big ion cannons) on the Imperator I.
Twin Turbolaser
------------------
What's the source that these are the most common type?
Turbolaser Cannon
--------------------
I thought these were the most common (don't know why, I just did- I don't have a source)

Dreadnaughts. VSDs. Acclamator.

Yes.. I know there are different ones..
Twin Turbolaser

Source? I have simply come to that conclusion after studying hundreds of sources for uhm.. many ships. I think the light guns are usually duals, hence the most common type.

ave a source)
They are very common too.

Ah I thought we were talking about Empire only.
Canon ships alone, both the Tradefed Battleship and of course the Acclamator has quad TLs. Done away with by Imperial era though (or just too small to see?)
I don't take part in much official universe ships- everyone seems to have a hard on for the Dreadnought and Victory-class ... no idea why
Regardless, what's the source for the armament of the Dreadnought and VSD?

WEG.. but I've seen at least one picture in which you can actually see the TLs of the Dreadnaught. They are inside the modular blisters.
I belive none of them have existed as a model (although it's not 100% certain in case of the DRD), but as concept sketches. I believe the VSD is a recycled early version of the ISD.
Why the VSD is popular? Well.. it's triangular.

Well according to WOTC the TL weaponry out there goes from weakest to most powerful in the following order:
Turbolaser cannons
Double turbolaser cannons
Heavy double turbolaser cannons
Light turbo quadlasers
Light turbolaser
Medium turbolaser
Turbo quadlaser
Turbolaser
Heavy turbolaser

ISD-I
12 HTLs
4 heavy Ion Cannons

Son of a bitch. My maths is deplorable. I stand corrected.
Imperator II is a much more common class in the films (do we ever see another Imperator besides ANH?)- though I do like the big turrets on the Imperator better.

I am also wrong. ISD-1s have 4 weapon emplacements per side. 3 are HTLs, and 1 is a heavy Ion Cannon. Each HTL has 2 barrels, and the heavy Ion Cannon has one barrel.
3*2*2=12
1*2*1=2
ISD-1
12 HTLs
2 heavy Ion Cannons

Are they only single barrel? Crazy.

No you were right the first time Shadow, they are twin-barrelled, trust me I'm looking at the SW:ICS right now.

I just checked, and I was right.

That's quite interesting. Maybe I'm just seeing what I want to see, but it seems to fit in with my observations rather nicely.

There's also the superlaser, and there should be types of TL's between the SL and the HTL. It also seems that the waeker cannons on starfighter are "laser cannons", and the even smaller ones are "blasters". I was thiking of a chart. When does a TL become an HTL. When does a laser become a LTL?

I think its all to do with the size of the barrels.
The HTLs have the biggest barrels; unless you count the superlaser with the beam trenches running for hundreds of km

Its probably all barrel size but therin lies the WEG/WOTC problem. Both invariably give the ISD-II subclass HTLs while the ISD-I doesn't get any. However the guns on the ISD-I are actually bigger barreled than the ISD-II weapons. Thus if the ISD-II has HTLs then the ISD-I has VHTLs or Very Heavy Turbolasers.

Yup- its reasonable to assume that the ISD2 did away with the bigger guns because:
- although presumably more powerful, they have a lower rate of fire and are much more obvious
- with the relatively low profile octuple turrets, they get a much higher rate and volume of fire

Well we also have the continous TL-beam arrays which behave like small scale superlasers on the LAATs, and they're also found on the ISD's ventral surface I believe.

Cpt, how do you figure?
