Dark Jedi or Sith?

I have a question about the nature of the Dark Jedi/Sith. I heard from somewhere (I don't remember where) that the Sith were a race of beings that the original Dark Jedio conquered? Inter-bred with? I have also heard the Sith mentioned as if they were a particular order of Dark Jedi. Is there a difference between the Sith and the Dark Jedi? Can a Dark Jedi exist without being part of the Sith? I'm just looking for information, not a debate.

There's another thread on this topic somewhere already.

The answer is yes, Sith is a particular group of Force users. I don't think they interbred though, considering that the Sith was an instectoid race. The DJ that went there established themselves as masters, or "Lords of the Sith". Apparently the original Sith race must have had some Force sensitivity, since they performed "magics" like Dathomir wtiches.

I would name the following Dark Jedi Masters, but not Sith:

Count Dooku
Joruus C'Baoth
Jerec

+ a whole load of other DJ characters.

The topic is covered fairly well at starwars.com, check it out.

Dark Jedi is a generic term for any Jedi that turns to the Dark Side.

Sith was originally an alien race, IIRC, taught to use the Force by some renegade Dark Jedi. Later, their philosophies were apparantly passed on to a group of Dark Jedi which took the name of the Sith as their own.

As for the 3 you mention, Dooku was definitely a Sith Lord, as he had a Darth alter-ego and addressed Darth Sidious/Palpatine as "My Master". The other 2 were probably just Dark Jedi.

I've never heard "Darth Dooku". I have heard "Together we can destroy the Sith."

Palpatine said "Welcome back Lord Tyrannus" Lord, a Sith Title. And he was lying too Obi-Wan just like Vader was too Luke.

The Sith are a particular branch of Dark Side users. Dark Jedi is a generic term for Jedi who turn to the Dark Side. Not all Sith are Dark Jedi, for instance, Darth Maul was never in the Jedi Order. Not all Dark Jedi are Sith, for instance the Dark Jedi that Yoda killed on Dagobah. Count Dooku is BOTH a Dark Jedi and a Sith, and some other Dark Side users do not fit into any of these categories--for instance some of the Witches of Dathomir use the Dark Side of the Force.

Ok, that works. And yeah, I never thought he really meant it, but it could still be an indication that he was not really a Sith. As for your point, I will accept that he is probably a Sith, considering he was apparently trained by Palpatine and the Lord title was used.

Wrong. Count Dooku is a Sith Lord.
At the end of the movie, Darth Sideous called him "Darth Tyrannus" or something like that. As you know, Darth is a title only for the Sith.

Nope. Dark Jedi too, and we see a lot of good Jedi use it in fits of rage; Jacen, Jaina, and Kyp have all used it at some point. Jaina in fact ripped a Vong warrior apart with it.

Joruus C'Boath, Kyle Katarn, and (presumably) the Dark Jedi on Dagobah have also used it, as have the Nightsisters of Dathomir. None of them are Sith lords.

That's the cool thing about Kyle Katarn in "Jedi Outcast". He nonchalantly uses and abuses light and dark side force powers (with maximum mastery near the end), wants revenge but for some reason isn't a Dark Jedi or gives in to the Dark Side.

Of course I think none of the games fit in the EU so it can just as well be a writer fuckup (but the distinction between Dark and Light force powers is very heavily enforced in the multiplayer part of the game)

True, true. I mean techinally there is no pure Sith except for the species. And they mixed in with the Dark Jedi.

The rationalization behind this is that Kyle Katarn has converted to the Dark Side entirely and come back, so he is not as afraid of using Dark Side Powers as would be normal Jedi. I suppose he is what you could call a Shadow Jedi.

In any case, it's really up to the player; I never use Dark Side powers when I play through the game. Strictly Light Side.

Well, that justifies it. I think it is more important that Kyle has not become a Jedi.

Ofcourse... thats the opposite of what they say in the books, having touched the darkside makes it easier for you to go back to it.

I think it could have something to do with the events in the book Traitor.
