Since Boba Fett is now the clone of Jango Fett, do we throw out the "Jaster Mereel" story from the novels (Tales of the Bounty Hunters, I think)

he could have taken that name and history before he became a bounty hunter.

Nope. Jaster Mereel was Jango's mentor. When another bounty hunter named Montross killed Jaster, Jango sought revenge and killed him.

Years later, after Jango died, Boba obtained Jaster's armor (I don't know how).

What sources are these legends from?

The infamous Tales series.

New Essential Guide to Characters.

I assume they got their information from the 4 part comic series by Dark Horse entitled Jango Fett: Open Seasons, which answered many questions about Boba's past.

EDIT: Wait, do you mean where the truth is from or the myth? MoO said where thy myth is from, the above is the truth.

Sorry, I was using the word "legends" rather loosely.
I meant the truth...thanks
So, about the Jaster Mereel story - I read that Boba Fett was Jaster Mereel, a Journeyman Protector on somewhere or else, and was exiled for some reason. He changed his name and became a bounty hunter....how does this jive with AOTC's account? Any thoughts/ideas?

It disagrees with Lucas so it is automatically wrong.

Maybe Jaster Mereel had a son also named Jaster Mereel, and Boba Fett and Jaster Mereel II exchanged names and armour along the way (not to mention eventual Firespray-class starships).... and the real Boba Fett has, by the time of ANH, been living like a king on Corellia for years.

It could also be that Boba Fett has used a variety of pseudonyms and fake background stories through his career.

The latter of those 2 ideas would be more likely.
