Question about DSI and the Battle of Yavin

Why was the Death Star not escorted by star destroyers or some sort of support fleet? Was it hubris? Or why wasn't a fleet immediately dispatched to Yavin to eliminate the rebels in some grand BDZ upon loss of contact with the Death Star?

How many hours did it take to evacuate the Hoth Base? About 20 hours give or take from the moment the fleet entered system and that was when presumably they were ready to leave on a moments notice as they have been falling back constantly under the renewed pogrom. And as the Rebel Fleet at Yavin was drastically downsized after the DSI, a few star destroyers or lighter cruisers might have done the job.

I will only answer the questions about Yavin. First, the DS1 has SDs inside of it. Also, Tarkin was going to use the DS as a personal weapon to prove it's strength against a hardened enemy, not just hippie planets like Alderran.

ISDs inside the Death Star...?

What region of your ass did you pull that out of, kid? I have never heard such garbage anywhere in the EU. SDs don't even appear to dock to the Death Stars, let alone actually go inside of it.

Yes where do they fit I see no space to dock them and the central equitorial trench is too narrow to allow one in. Evidence, please

The Mandel blueprints listed 6 ISDs as part of the DS1 craft complement.

Admittedly, the blueprints are strikingly inaccurate in many respects.

I think it was the movie novelzation. Also, why would you have so many admirals on board if not to command ships. The guide to characters(ist ed.) talks about Tarkin and the person in charge of the SDs onboard were thinking about using the DS to remove the Emperor.

I don't see how you could even go by that source in such a situation, especially considering the DS1 cutaway and schematic depicted in the OT ICS...

I've read the ANH novelisation, and I don't remember any such passages in the book.

And I don't remember that section of the EGTC, either.

I smell garbage. And frankly considering your history, I'm not surprised in the least...

Another question, why wouldn't the DS have SDs onboard.

BECAUSE THERE'S NO FUCKING SPACE FOR THEM AND NO WAY FOR THEM TO GET INSIDE IT, YOU DOORKNOB

Seriously, try to actually use your brain to think...

Because the expense of a hyperdrive on what is essentially a giant fighter is unnecessary. If the DS1 had large craft on board, it would be likely that they would be modified system patrol craft, berift of hyperdrive.

I just went back over the design in ICS and I see where you are coming from. I was using info from UGTC 1st ed and it is 6 years old. Though I can't see why Leth or Lemith wouldn't put them into the design? You could run a good chunk of the fleet form the DS.

But I do now admit I was wrong.

Howedar is correct in that you would not need to have Star Destroyers stored in the Death Stars because it would be extremely redundant and wasteful. A mobile battlestation with a hyperdrive would not need onboard craft that are equipped with their own hyperdrives.

According to WEG's Death Star Technical Companion (I know, I know...), Death Star I carried only four actual capital ships, which were Strike Cruisers.

It also says that DS1 carried 3600 assault shuttles, 2840 blastboats, 1860 dropships, and 13000 support craft.

Seems a bit imballenced to me...

As already said SDs would be extremely redundant to escort the most powerful space station in the history of Star Wars. Even if for some unknown reason it would need SDs escorting it, taking up space in the DS would be very wasteful when they can just follow the DS with their own hyperdrives.

Considering Death Star I's sheer size and mass, I actually wouldn't be surprised if they could actually outrun it in Hyperspace...
