The general opinion of Jacen is quite low. You see him as a whiny wuss.
Yet the doesn't seem conifnded to just him. Compare the new Jedo order to the prequel one. None of the Jedi in the genosian area seemed to question what they are doing.
Also the anakin/jacen conflict thing was a sub-plot ithrought the first 5 books yet the entire point of Balance Point seemed to be him resolving this issue. Yet in rebirth barely two books later he's back with the "oh no this is to agressive" routine. I mean what happened did Balance point cease to exisist?

p.s Read all the NJO up to Traitor please dont spoil beyond that.

I don't have a problem with him as of the middle of Force Heretic III: Reunion.

*SPOILERS*

He tries to avoid any action that would cause the otherwise peaceful Ferroans any harm. I have a feeling he'll take any action necessary to defend himself and his friends, but he won't do it until its absolutely necessary.

He's gradually be getting better post-Traitor. He is more active, and has been involved in a few tangles. But he seems to be taking up a more Luke-style stance. Action when necessary. (Although Luke seems to know when to fight and when to talk much better than Jacen)

It is the classic, defined role of the Jedi. Is to try and resolve conflict peacefully, and try not to do any harm unless necessary. The reason why I think many people say the NJO Jedi are more wuss-ified is because with the movies we are given a window into the story during intense times of war, when an organized society (the Jedi) is forceably thrown in the middle of it. (Not to say that the NJO isn't in an intense time of war, but I feel that war against what is the rising Empire and the Empire is much more engaged and costly because there are drastically outnumbered, under supplied, etc. I know the Vong also outnumber the NR/GA, but the NR/GA have far more resources than the Rebellion) We're also given examples of many non-classic Jedi that are quick to action (Qui, Anakin, Luke). I'm not disagreeing with the point that in the NJO Jacen's character is wuss-ified. It most certainly is. But he's gradually improving and not so much of the whiney bitch that he once was. I used to loathe his character, and hoped that he'd become one of the causalties of the war. But I can stand him alot better now.

Major problem is that he was de-wussed in Balance Point and by re-birth he was re-wussified
