Do you think stated ISD troop capacities are understated?

I've begun to think so.

A modern cruise ship can accomodate 1000 people, and it's 1% an ISD's size, and large spaces are devoted to recreational facilities, and SW2ICS gives a troop capacity of 17,000 for the Acclamator Assault Cruiser, and an ISD is 10x larger, with less space given to hangar facilities.

I was thinking that an ISD could carry 10-20x the current stated capacity of 9700 Stormtroopers.

What do you think?

It's possible, but don't forget: they also have to carry fighters, speeders, walkers, shuttles, bikes, prefabricated bases, and support personnel. That takes up a lot of space.

And spare parts, and huge ammounts of supplies in general.
Possible some ISDs are converted sacrificing storage areas for enhanced troop capacity.

However the ISD isn't a troop transport.

Yes, and the ISD was designed to opperate for years without going to port. The troops would need more than just food. For example~ water, clothing, personal hygiene just to name a few.

I guess you guys are right. the ISD is probably doesn't need many troops to destroy military centers, the turbolasers could do that. When the military bases are gone, the ISD deploys the pre-fabricated base, and then more Stormtroopers can be recruited, and more fighters could be produced on the planet. Alternatively, the ISD could just melt the top layer of the planet. The former option is one of my theories.

Personally, I think they have enough troops to do the job. Basically, they have scores of fighters, plus assault weapons that will be down to surpress ground forces. The Stormtroopers are basically icing on the cake after an invasion. They just move in to occupy and do clean up.

Stormtrooper also = shocktroopers. The are only the first wave. That's is why the ISD carries those pre-fab bases it can set up in a hurry. After all resistence has been crushed, then come in the troop transports with the regular Imperial Army.

I was beginning to think that. The ISD destroys resistance, and troop transports bring the required Stormtroopers.

I have been lectured on this enough, and I have learned something new. If you want to discuss the role of Imperial battleships in this thread, feel free to do so.
