Seperatists questions

What were the motives for the small guys to quit from the Republic and join the Seperatists? I keep getting stuff from the EU like they didn't like NR laws, regulations and taxes. However, I also read stuff like how members of the Republic were sick and tired of the Commerce Guild, Trade Federation monopolies and thus joined the Seperatists.

So, can anyone fill me in slightly better?

This neither makes sense to me, since the monopolistic corporations actually are the ones backing the Seperatists!

My guess was systems where joining the Seperatists becasue Palpy was using his powers to fuck with their individual systems. I.E if system X is a thriving beer drinking culture put a heavu tax on the beer, if System Y where nutty sports fans try and pass a motion that the sport is too dangerous and banned. My guess is also that he did all this behind the scenes and had his puppet senators pass these motions.

All this is ofcourse speculation, but it makes sence to me.

1) It was Dooku who got hte companies to join. The individual systems and such didn't have a choice in the matter. Further (and the EU is fuckign this up royally), they agreed to back and support the Sepratists, not fight the war for them. The forefron of the sepratist military still should have been OR sector fleets and defense groups.

2) The systems were pissed about alot of stuff. There had been a complete breakdown of law in parts of the OR, others tarrifs had unexpected results, otehrs it was one group forcing the other, or alliances ala WW1. Saxton's interview at TFN and the speech in War on Jabalim #1 should provide a good idea of the kinda stuff going down.

But I don't get how them leaving the Republic due to the monopolies lead them to supporting it.

Can anyone give me a clearer picture on the composition of the Seperatists and why their members join up?

The problems start in the few years before the Seperatist movement. Mid and Outer Rim systems rely on trade to survive. The Trade Federation and Commerce guilds find that this is a great area to start their monopolies. In a few short years the Trade Federation is representing many planets in the Senate. The Senate sees this incresing TF power as a threat and taxes the hell out of them. The Mid and Outer rim territories are in returned charged extra for their shipping rights and the TF and Commerce Guild supplies them with the ideals that if they found a way to leave the Republic and its taxes they can majorly decrease the added charges on their trading systems. Since the individual planets dont represent themselves in the Republic Senate no direct and "truthful" information can get to these planets and they take the TF and Commerce Guild invitations to back them in their new Seperatist government and movement and thus Mid and Outer Rim territories leave the Republic in favor of less shipping charges by monopolistic buisnesses

That still doesn't make sense. The EU specifically points out that terrorist actions have been increasing against monopolies like the Trade Federation( of course, ignited by the Sith). Why will you want to blow up someone who you're going to accept as your leader?

To increase the level of militarisation.

If the companies arm up to protect themself against pirates and terrorists, the law-preserving forces like police-organisations and sector-fleets have to arm up, too.

As a second a lot of conflictsd become more dangerous, so a lot of Jedi will die or no longer be able to maintain the peace.

Once the companies realize, that they can use their new created armies not only to defend themself, but to enforce their business-interests, even more fuel is added to an already existing fire.

Sooner or later the chaos becomes unbearable and people are crying out for "the strong man" who restores peace and order.

The average peon doesn't want the monopolies there, Dooku does. And the peon's don't get much say, just go along because the figure that once they are running their own government they cna restrict the monopolies like the Republic could not. They are apparently unaware of Dooku's promises, or just have no intention of keeping them.
