Star Wars alpahabet. Multi-forum cooperative modeling projec

So I'm setting up a rather large modeling project/competition at a variety of different boards.

spacebattles.com

stardestroyer.net

and scifi-meshes.com

The project is to model a decent Star Wars fighter for EVERY LETTER OF THE ALPHABET. Cheezy huh? But it sounds like fun doesn't it?

After a quick search, I found a list of existing Star Trek ships, some already modeled, some not, some pathetic, that we can start with, the rest we will need to develop from scratch.

Image

What I need from you initially is to tell me of other Star Wars 'letter fighter' ships you know of. I'm sure I missed a few, infact I know there is a very good O-Wing fighter out there by the Axeman, I just havn't found a picture of it yet.

So post pics of anything you don't see here, or if you know of a model of something I only have a draft, or crappy model of, post that too.

Once we have determined what is already out there, we can start taking volunteers from each board to model the ships for the remaining letters.

And before anyone alse calls it, I have dibs on the Z-Wing. (Unless it already exists)

When we are done I will put up a site with out Star Wars Alphabet!

[edit] And no this shouldent be in the Art forum. The actuall project thread will be, but first I need information from everyone, including the artistically challenged.

Ah, the O-Wing! That was based on an idea by SDN's very own Rob Wilson. Go excavating in the A&P forum and you'll surely find it.

Wouldn't the Z-95 qualify as the 'Z-Wing'?

Not really, since the Z-95 is is never referred as such by anyone in the literature. Unlike all the others listed, which are referred to as "(insert letter)-wings."

Would it be cheating if the 'M' wing looked like the 'W' wing, just upside down/right side up?

Besides, using that logic, then the X-wing would be called the "T-wing" because it's the T-65.

T-wings! I remember those! I slaughtered those pieces of shit with great predjudice in Tie Fighter.

Wouldn't an I-wing be shaped like a long cylinder?

Of course, the oddity of this situation is that the fighters resemble letters from the English alphabet, not Aurek-Besh.

Except the mysterious "B"-Wing.

What might work is something like a flying rectangle with the engine and cockpit built into the center of the long side, and some form of large budge on each narrow end perhaps holding a missile launcher. Lasers could flank the cockpit.

Well, the B-Wing is a Bomber. B for Bomber maybe?

B for Blade, actually. It looks like a blade when folded up(I'm not kidding, that's the reasoning offered in WEG).

It looks like a b to me.

You have to know how to look at it right. ;)

As for a J-Wing, wouldn't that look like a Kushan Scout Fighter from Homeworld?

I think the "b" wing looks closer to an english "t" wing...

I don't know how to explain the fact that they are based on letters from the English alphabet as opposed to the aurabesh one. Maybe someone will explain it someday...

Ein posted something like this about lego fighters based on every letter.

Do they ever say "<anything>-Wing" in the movies? Can't remember.

I recall hearing it in TESB on bespin, when one of the Imperial officers informs Vader of Luke's arrival.

The specific line is something like "Lord Vader. Ship approaching: X-wing class."

Since we are talking about the star wars alphabet, I wonder if this is a well known fact: The words used in Anakin's Naboo starfighter's readouts can actually be directly 'translated' from Aurekbash to our own alphabet.

Translated to Aurekbash, it says: Anakin turn the ship around and go back home right away.

The strange thing is, other words in episode using the same font cannot be translated directly, like the ROTJ ones. Another language written the the same font, perhaps?

If you have the Aurekbash font, you can type the above sentence yourself and compare it with a screenshot in a site. The only thing different is the alphabet A, which has been laterally inverted in the movie.

Do read the article in that page as well.

I know linking to another site might not be allowed here... but just thought you might want to check it out.
