Republic Credits

This question came to me when i was playing Racer Revenge (i know its old and i just got it) anyways i was wondering what a Republic Credit actually is.
In our term a "Credit" is something that isnt really present but can be used to pay for something also means that something can represent the actuall tool of payment. In episode 1 when Watto is haggling with Qui-Gon Watto states he needs "something more real". Is he refering to that a Republic Credit isnt actually real but is more like an Earthling credit card or debit card. But in Episode 4 which we all know starts on Tatooine, Han flips Wuther the bar tender a few coins that we figure is a form of money. Even though its during Imperial rule the money we realize is also called a Credit and there is no reference to a Trugget in Episode 4 even though we hear them mentioned 32 years before on Tatooine.
In the EU i think in "The Bacta War" when the NR realeses a female Imperial officer into the newly NR aquired Coruscant she attempts to pay in Imperial Credits and is arrested, its never clear how she payed though.

If anyone can give me answers or opinions on what they think an actuall Republic Credit, Credit or Imperial Credit is please post

What Jinn did have was the equivlent to a sharecheck card; Jedi are given access to accounts with an alloted amount of money in them (the amount is determined by the mission planners, and more can be added if needed).

There is also hard currency, though what their standard is is unknown. Shadows of the Empire and Courtship of Princess Leia indicate they are things like gold and platinum, but given their availability in a galaxy and how the current world market has moved away from a gold standard (good to, as the price of gold has dropped), this is unlikely at best. The IBC probably has something to do with it, as they were able to make the seperatist money worth almost as much as the republic credits.

When watto said he wanted something more real, he wanted someting like jewels or whatever the standard is, or other equipment because that is easier to move on a Hutt world as the Hutts are the currency exchangers and gouge the hell out of the customers. It has nothing to do with the physicality of the credits.

Credits are also coined. I recommend Saxton's page for a further read on SW money.

'Credits' have been the common name for SF currency for ages. It's like 'dollars' and 'pounds' here on earth. So what Jinn had was a cheque book and a budget.

Unfortunately on the frontier world of Tatooine, where smuggling and black markets are the basis of commerce, such notes for the '1st Bank of the Republic' are more useful as toliet paper. Now if Qui Gon had some 'Hutt Pounds' about his person he may of been more successful.
