General discussion about Cygnus SpaceWerks' XM-1 NovaWing Missile Boat!

Like it second only to the TIE defender

Though it's fun destroying Star Destroyers and all manner of cap ship in a funky looking Shuttle

They hurt real bad. Pose as New Rebel Alliance Starfighter Pilots, flying on Mon Calamiri, the new Rebel provincal capital. And let loose on some Shipyards & Mon Calamiri Cruisers.

I think it's vastly superior to the TIE Defender. My accuracy in that game was always over 90% with lasers, but I still like the Missile Boat better because of its extraordinary advantages in range, firepower against capital ships, and speed advantage when using SLAMS. It is, IMO, a vastly superior ship.

Missile Boats kick ass.

However I think I could be satisfied with a very large WIG aircraft fitted out for naval strike, at least that tech might finally work, unlike the Missile Boat which is unfortunately impossible.

Yes those small boats are useful bastards.

I just don't remember from TIE Fighter or X-Wing Alliance the Missile Boat being referred to as anything else except Missile Boat.

Anyway I like the Missle Boat b/c it's fast and manuervable. Well in XWA anyway heheh.

P.S.- If those missles and torps are in the three digit mt range.

It's also equipped with a speed boost that drains the single blaster. What I don't remember is, does it have a tractor like the TIE Defender? Because I remember one of the missile boat's purposes was to counter the TIE Defender. But I still like the TIE Defender better, though.

No it does not come with a Tractor, however to be specfic it was designed to fight squadrens of TIE Defenders

Though I'd take a Defender of a Boat any day

The Emperor's Throne Room, a non-canon source but the only source that's non-silent. Officially, though, it might simply be Missile Boat. It is referred to as the XM-1 in the game, however, so at least that part is official.

The Missile Boat would be a fine interceptor if you added a WSO/RIO in the back. It's speed and missile load would allow it to decimate incoming strikes.

Don’t forget the Blastboat or assualt shuttle with most or all of the armament removed and replaced by an updated sensor suit with data links.

Actually I think the Jedi had something like this only with ECM in Star By Star

Which XM-1 do you prefer?

1- the ingame XM-1 from TIE Fighter and X-Wing Alliance
2- the cutscene XM-1 from TIE Fighter (i.e. the one that gets dropped out of the hangar)

They look significantly different: Number 2 has a more detailed appearance and a more distinctive cockpit.

I prefer 2.

My favorite non-TIE look in all of SW has to be the XG-1 StarWing though.

The Missileboat isn't that good against human pilots in XWA.
It is pretty good in a human vs AI situation.

Without SLAMS in XWA, half of its utility is gone. Otherwise, it's a pretty good little ship.

2 looks cool. 1 looks like a crappy shuttle.

Sure. Why blast them into smithereens when you can JAM THEIR SENSORS so that other prissy flyboys CAN SHOOT THEM FOR YOU?

Hang on the Missile Boat does have SLAMs in XWA doesn't it?

The missile boat was nice, but it would have been a lot more useful if it was equipped with off-boresight targetting (or at least a larger misile locking arc) and missiles that were properly sized given the nature of the missile boat's typical targets.
