Why did not Luke know that Leia was his sister

I wonder why it took Luke so long to find out that Leia is actualy his sister. A simple DNA test would have revealed that.

Why in the hell would they ever needed to get a DNA test to see if they were related? On a whim? ROFL That's funny! would you get a DNA test with your best friend to see if, in fact, you were brothers? Come on, now, Man, you know better than that!

"Hey, we just smacked lips in front of Han! Let's make sure we're not related, okay?"

The question is not utterly ridiculous, if they have medical records on file in the rebellion, the DNA match could have been seen by a shapr eyed individual (they do travel and adevnture alot together so their records would be on file near each other for easy access)

There was never any reason to make such a check, so it's perfectly reasonable for them to be ignorant of their relation.

1) There's no reason to think the rebellion ever had those things on file. Its an extremely distributed network of cells and agents and forces, and operating semi-independantly. Its entirely possible neither one of them ever had a genetic scan handed over to the rebellion - and maybe not one ever. These characters were running around from planet to planet, and there's no evidence they took their records from one base to another - carring such information could be dangerous. And it may well be that gene scans are not considered neccessary in SW. I mean, if they can readily treat most diseases or conditions, they would only need to do a limited scan for certain things at the time of treatment, and maybe not even then.

2) Even assuming they had one, why would anyone check? people usually know already if they are related.

3) The droids may have privacy programming.

In other words, there is no case.

Well, they better had to find out in case Leia chose Luke instead of Han.

Did you get a DNA test done on your girlfriend to see if she was related to you?

Luke Skywalker never knew his father, so it's technically possible that he could have thought that his father sired other children than him but that they weren't on Tatooine with him. (of course, this depends on what Owen and Beru told him)

In a galaxy with a countless number of people, tell me how likely it is that your girlfriend (from another planet in a totally different part of the galaxy) is your lost sister?

Hey, I'm going to need the DNA of everyone who's posted in this thread. Just to be sure.

Would a regular medical record contain complete DNA information? Plus, I would think records would be listed in alphabetical order, even for adventurers (which describes nearly the entire Rebellion). Organa and Skywalker are not terribly close in the alphabet. As far as we know, they had three adventures together over the course of a few years, with a cumulative length of a few months. I doubt their medical records would be placed next to each other based on that relatively minor connection. It's far more likely that, if records were organized by a non-alphabetical standard, that Leia's would go under "Political/Diplomatic" and Luke's under "Pilots" or "Red/Rogue Group" depending on how specific the records get.

Plus, the first 'modern' physical Luke ever had was probably when they saved him from the frozen tundra on Hoth.

Rural people oftentimes don't have medical records.

Surely he had some sort of physical. At the very least, a blood sample taken so they would know what type to provide in the event of blood loss.

Blood typing != full DNA test.

If we assume that the Rebels employed annual physicals, then Luke would have had three or four in the time between ANH and ESB.

Simon: Please, don't just throw out random theories.

Who the hell would compare their DNA on a whim, especially when it was known that Luke was a farmboy from Tatooine and Leia a princess from Alderaan?

Then again, maybe he DID know somehow (he was quite certain she was in RotJ), and because of his 'country' origins he just didn't give a damn about sliding his tounge in her mouth. :P

The Force told look in ROTJ. Prior to ESB, he had no serious training in it.

After ESB, in the EU literature, things have cooled a little. Han is a higher priority for them. Leia, in a comic, even admits she loves han and just cares for Luke

Some folks'll never lose a toe, then again some folks'll, like Luke Skywalker the slack-jawed yokel...
