Rumors about the Final Editions

Apparantly there have been rumors about an Extra Special Edition being made of all the final cuts of the movies. At the 501st Alpine Garrison, I ran across this list of rumored changes to the 6-movie set once they are released. What do you think?

I'm the "Coyote" there too, so my speculation that this is typical Lucas misinformation with some few exceptions (Han shoots first) is my take on the subject...

Unsubstantiated rumour. Isn't that what this "Final Edition" stuff has always been about?

*yawn*

Okay, I won't speculate as to whether or not this is true, since I have no real way of knowing one way or another.

However, if this is true, then this is going to be a PHENOMENAL improvement on the SE trilogy. If they actually do this, it will be the best thing since Ep. II.

Sounds like the biggest bunch of crap I ever heard. "CGI Ewoks" why the fuck do you need CGI Ewoks?

So more of 'em can die?

I also want it to become absolutely, 100% clear that there's a shield protecting Alderaan, but that's not remotely realistic (and, BTW, it's already pretty damn clear from both the original and SE trilogies), but we can't always get what we want. :(

Well, let's indulge for a moment and pretend that it's true. :)
Episode IV: A New Hope

01. The Imperial March has been added to Darth Vader's first appearance on Princess Leia's ship.
Sounds good to me.
02. When Obi-Wan is talking to Luke about his father Anakin's Theme plays in the background and then it turns into the Imperial March as he talks about Vader.
This seems consistent with John Williams' comments that he wanted The Imperial March to have more of a presence in ANH.
03. The lightsaber effects have been redone and the frame jumps of lightsabers being turned on has been removed.
Excellent, though I'm sure OT purists will whine about the shitty lightsaber effects being "part of the original experience" or something.
04. There's a new scene which has been shot during the filming of Episode III in which the Emperor dissolves the Senate.
Not really sure this is necessary. Tarkin already informs people of this. What's the scene going to consist of? Palpatine standing in the Senate Chamber and giving everyone the finger?
05. In the Cantina, the Duros(green aliens guys) have been replaced with Neimoidians and some aliens from the prequels have been added.
Why Neimoidians? They didn't strike me as the type to populate the Cantina.
06. The bleeding arm on the floor in the Cantina has been replaced with a non-bleeding arm because it's now canon that lightsabers cauterize wounds.
Great! A little consistency for a change.
07. The original shooting scene between Han and Greedo has been restored.
Woohoo!
08. Jabba the Hutt has been given a makeover and Han no longer steps on his tail.
Good. He looked pretty crappy.
09. In place of R2 wobbling down the stairs to the Falcon's hangar, a CG R2 navigating the stairs like he does in Attack of the Clones was added.
Makes sense.
10. The white boxes around space ships have been removed and new CG shots have been added.
What white boxes? New CG shots are cool with me.
11. The scene of the Falcon being chased by the two Star Destroyers was modified. The Falcon now does spinning moves, avoiding the Star Destroyers' fire.
Good.
12. When the Death Star destroys Alderaan there's a new scene of Yoda's reaction to the disturbance in the Force that is created by all those deaths and then it cuts to Obi-Wan reacting to it as well.
That's cool I suppose. Though I'm not sure that it's necessary. What are they going to show? Yoda getting a migraine and popping an Advil?
13. The Dianoga has gotten a CG makeover and were are now able to see more of the creature.

Sounds good to me.
14. The Death Star's paneling and computers have been slightly altered to show similar displays to those in the prequels.
Good. The cardboard looked stupid in light of the prequel stuff.
15. The words "Tractor Beam" with Aurebesh lettering.
Hehe, cool.
16. More stormtroopers have been added to the Death Star.
Okay, whatever.
17. Temuera Morrison's voice is being recorded for use with all the stormtroopers.
This could play Hell with the EU material which tells us that stormtroopers are recruited and trained.
18. The Obi-Wan/Vader duel has been spruced up. It is much more epic and there is much more movement. A modified version of Duel of the Fates is being considered for the scene.
"Spruced up"? How exactly? Does Obi-Wan do flips? I think the scene works just fine the way it is. It's not so much about the duel (which was rather unexciting; it was choreographed in a fencing style, after all) as it is about Obi-Wan's sacrifice and the dialog between him and Vader.
19. The Death Star plans that are taken from R2 have been updated. When the Rebels are reviewing the Death Star plans they look similar to the plans we see in Attack of the Clones.

Good. They can build a superlaser but the Death Star plans consist of about 30 well-positioned dots?
20. The Death Star battle is much more epic with more Tie Fighters and more Rebels being blown to bits. We get to see old Naboo starfighters being used by the Rebels.
Eh? Why? I'm all for more destruction, don't get me wrong, but wasn't the whole "30 snub-fighters" thing a big deal in terms of how desperate the Rebels were?
21. There's a new scene(shot during Episode III) where Darth Vader goes to Coruscant and lands his ship in the same building Count Dooku does at the end of Attack of the Clones. Except now the building is all fixed up and it is now Palpatine's palace. He meets with Palpatine to ask for forgiveness for his failure and inform him of a new potential who is strong in the Force.
Good. ANH and TESB needed some sort of connection.
22. Chewbacca now gets a medal.
Too late. MTV already gave him one with his lifetime achievement award at the MTV Movie Awards. :D
Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back

01. The taun-tauns are now CG.
Sounds good. They were really robotic.
02. The battle of Hoth is much more epic. We see the Imperial ships land on Hoth and release AT-ATs. The AT-ATs have been sped up a bit. There's a ground battle between the Rebel soldiers and stormtroopers featuring new ships and vehicles.
Schweeeeet!
03. Temuera Morrison's voice is being recorded for the older Boba Fett and all the stormtroopers.
Good for Boba, but could be bad for stormtroopers. See previous comments.
04. The white boxes around space ships have been removed.
Again, what boxes?
05. The slug monster is CG.
Nifty.
06. Ian McDiarmid has refilmed scenes as the Emperor. The conversations between Vader and Palpatine is now longer and features a few connections to the prequels.
Excellent.
07. Yoda's face is now animated in CG allowing more _expression of emotions yet his movements remain the same. Also two deleted scenes featuring Yoda instructing Luke have been restored.

Sounds good to me.
08. A new scene was shot in which the stormtroopers, after they capture Han, Leia and Chewie, bring Vader the box containing C-3PO in pieces. Vader orders the stormtroopers to bring the broken droid to Chewbacca's cell so that he can fix him.
Oh, that's certainly interesting. Little Annie still has a soft spot for C-3PO. That's actually a very good, however subtle, addition.
09. The lightsaber effects have been redone in certain parts.
Good.
10. Luke's fall from Cloud City has been reshot against bluescreen using a stuntman.
Nifty.
Episode VI: Return of the Jedi

01. Jabba the Hutt is now a combination of the puppet and CG.
I kinda liked the way the puppet looked.
02. The Rancor is CG and looks disgusting as ever.
Good. That whole sequence could stand a touchup. There was a lot of obvious blue screening and matte painting.
03. Yoda is CG. Yoda disappears leaving his clothes behind like Obi-Wan now.
Yoda was under a blanket, so we couldn't tell if he'd left his clothes behind anyway.
04. The ewoks are now mostly CG and there are a lot more of them.
Makes sense. It would take a lot of those little guys to do the kind of damage they did.
05. The plan is to insert the love theme Across the Stars when Luke is talking with Leia about their mother.
Good change.
06. Temuera Morrison's like before is now the voice for Boba Fett and all the stormtroopers.
See previous comments.
07. In the battle of Endor there are thousands of Ewoks and they are more vicious than there midgets-in-suits counterparts. More bite the dust now.
Good. I want to see Ewoks mauling stormtroopers and getting blasted into charred corpses.
08. White boxes around ships removed.
Eh?
09. The black blotches around Palpatine's face are gone.
Um ... okay.
10. Some of the lightsaber effects have been redone. The shadows that the lightsabers made on the floor are gone.
Interesting.
11. During Anakin's death scene it starts with a sad rendition of the Imperial March and slowly evolves into Anakin's Theme.

Sounds okay.
12. Sebastion Shaw who played Anakin when he was unmasked has been replaced with Hayden Christenson in make-up to make him look older. Anakin has much more dialogue. He apologizes for the destruction he caused, he thanks his son for turning him back to the light, he tells his son to rebuild the Jedi and he says he loves him and his sister. Just before he dies he says, "It is finished...".
I can see this turning out badly. "It is finished"? Lame. Sebastian Shaw's death scene was very dignified.
13. We see more planets celebrating at the end of the movie. We see an aged Jar Jar, who is now the leader of the Gungans, on Naboo celebrating with the people of Naboo and the Gungans. We see an old Watto, who is now unable to fly, sitting in a hover chair cheering on Tatooine. During these scenes Across the Stars plays transitioning to the victory celebration music at the Ewok tree village.
Fuck Jar Jar. You're telling me that he wasn't assassinated by radicals or Palpatine's enemies in the Senate after introducing the motion that gave Palpatine emergency powers?! I don't see why Watto should be in there. He didn't seem like someone who would particularly care about the Empire, especially since he owned slaves, and the slave-trade in the Empire was legal.

"Across The Stars" playing is a good thing.
14. Anakin's spirit is now played by Hayden Christenson with make-up to make him look his age. He looks on proudly at his son Luke with the spirit of Padme by his side.
I remember McCallum saying that Natalie Portman was not filming any extra material for RoTJ.

These are just fanboy wankings. The Ultimate Editions (or Final Editioins) were vaguely hinted at but no work has been done. That list is just fanboy wishlist. While Geogre Lucas will most certainly correct a few things for the next release i dont think it will be this extensive--this is about twice the amount of work of the Special Editions themselves. It would be nice though, most of those are very good. The only thing that make me go   is the Hayden being filmed for his death scene. Thats just fucking stupid.

And the "white boxes" around the ships refer to the matt lines, which leave a lighter-coloured box around the spaceship models in most scenes, espcially those with fast movement. ANH and ROTJ are almost non-existant but ESB has a few really bad ones.

Many (most?) Stormtroopers are clones. However, those clones are not clones of Jango Fett.

And regardless of all of that, why would a clone have the same voice as its template? Identical twins don't have identical voices. Its fucking retarded. Even the "mostly clones theory" provided by Pax Emperica: The Wookie Annhiliation agrees with diverse clone lines--which would make all stormtroopers not physically identical. Though the maturation and health habits of the troopers would also render them not-totally identical.

Its stupid shit to suggest the Stormtroopers should be made identical.

I think the ST voice thing would be bad. There are many models of clones, as well as some recruits.
05. The plan is to insert the love theme Across the Stars when Luke is talking with Leia about their mother.
Good change
I disagree. I think Luke and Leia was one of the best pieces of music in that film, and fits perfectly, IMNSHO better than AtS.

I generally think those are good changes.

ANH: 1-16, all great. But dubbing in Temeura Morrison's voice is a terrible idea, given that it's not canonically possible for all stormies to be cloned from the same guy. I also don't know if I like the idea of Naboo starfighters being at the Battle of Yavin. The other changes are good.

ESB: 1-2 good, again Temeura's voice shouldn't be dubbed into the stormies. Fine for Boba, though he needs to maintain a similar tone to the original voice actor. 4-6 good, 6 in particular. I also like the idea of simply modifying Yoda's face in ESB, because removing Frank Oz's puppet work would be a disaster. 8,9, 10, all good. They also should remove Luke's screaming.

RoTJ: All good, again, except for Morrison as the stormies. Also, Padme isn't a force user, she shouldn't be a blue ghost.

This has the stench of fan-wank. Not that I don't like most of these changes, but I think it's all nonsense.

I'd be upset if they took out the "Luke and Leia" theme from ROTJ... it was easily one of the most memorable and moving sections of the score. As for the list itself, it reminds me of all the lists people were making of things they wanted to see in Episode II and guesses about the plot, and how far they were from what we actually got on screen.

Boss Nass is part of a less commen racial group than most Gungans.

Also, Neimoidians and Duros are decented from the same species, not the exact same one. The Neimoidians split off and formed their own group many thousands of years ago, thus forming a different racial division.

I'm glad to iffy on most, but I think redubbing the troopers' voices is really dumb, especially for Fett. I LOVED Fett's voice.

The ideas for replacing Shaw with Hayden are also idiotic.

And why the hell would Palpatine disolved the senate in III since he doesn't do it until IV? Leia was an Imperial senator, afterall...

I think you misunderstood something.

That part was also filmed during the filming of Episode III but it will be in ANH.

As far as I know the only thing that has ever been confirmed is that the DVDs will have Imperial March worked into ANH somewhere.

I can live with that: I'm not as attached to ANH's score.

How do you know? What gives someone the ability to turn into a blue ghost? While it's certainly related to the Force, I don't think we should preclude the possibility that non-Force users COULD POTENTIALLY form blue ghosts, given the right circumstances.

If this is anywhere near true I want to see a ghost of Shmi somewhere in Ep3.

I'd say most of those things would be really cool (although not really necessary, and they *could* really mess things up if done poorly), but the Stormtrooper voice stuff and Jar-Jar would be utterly idiotic.

The Rebels using a few old Naboo fighters is not too implausible...the Alliance is poor enough that it's not exactly in a position to be picky about equipment. It would be interesting if Vader hesitated for a heartbeat before blowing away an N-1, or made some comment to himself about it being a familiar design.
