Episodes 7-9?

Post by Atavarius »

Star Wars: Episodes 7-9: Rumours of George Lucas following up his original trilogy with another down the track have been around for years - some were solid information, most were just wishful thinking. As a result unless something solid comes through on them I'm not touching speculation on the topic with a ten foot pole. Well today came word which whilst not solid, is from an insider source whose regularly provided totally accurate intel so far for over two years on a variety of projects so I tend to take his word for it. If true, its also good news for fans let down by the prequels: "One of my pals at ILM told me a few days back that another trilogy 'might' happen. This is the sequel trilogy that Lucas said he'd never do. It's very very early days yet, but apparently there is some talk, even to the point of Mr Spielberg - who was interested in doing 'Clones' at one point - stepping in for Lucas, who may want to write, but probably won't want to direct. If Lucas doesn't they'll probably work out a deal for say Frank Darabont to pen (ala the current "Indiana Jones IV" arrangement). This one would be the three films following Return of the Jedi, Han Solo, Skywalker, post-Darth etc. How hard of a time are they going to have on their hands getting some of those original players! ha ha! finally a fitting use for CGI hey? The deal is everyone wants the sequels, except Lucas, who is apparently exhausted [Personally I'd say studio pressure]. If Spielberg directs, it could be ok. Better than those terrible prequel movies". Thanks to 'Wookie Walker'.
ala Dark Horizons.

May we actually get three more without Lucas at the helm or on the pen?

Discuss.

Well it would have to be titled 'Return of the Geriatrics' given the current age of the original cast members, and Solo would be CGI as Ford has said he is not prepared to reprise his role as Han Solo.
Otherwise dont beleive rumours and only beleive when you see it.

doubtfulll... who would replace Solo, Luke and Leia... Mon Mothma as well lol or Wedge... all of them play an important role in the Thrawn Trilogy, which would be the logical books for the last 3 Episodes... i wouldnt know any other place to make em maybe except the two Dark Empire books

If episodes 7 - 9 will ever be made it is highly unlikely that they would be based on the Thrawn trilogy or anything else from the post-RotJ EU books.

These kinds of rumors fly all the time. While I'd hope it would be true, the fact is, I don't see it happening. Even in the unlikely event that Lucus actually did change his mind again, which I find doubtful, I don't see the original cast coming back. If they did it at all, it would have to be centered around their kids or something, post NJO era or something, which would not be wise.

Lucas has recently stated that there will not be anymore Star Wars films after Episode III, as he would be too old by the time he got to them and he would rather be spending the near future making films that are in the same vein as his first one, THX 1138.

The article says that Lucas won't being doing it though. So that really isn't a reason why it's wrong.

Though I still don't think what the article says will happen.

I agree. I haven't heard such unverifiable garbage since the last TF.N Episode III spoiler report. And this is even worse. It's so vague and outlandish that it doesn't even make any sense.

And since when do underlings at ILM know about what Lucas and the other PTB at LucasFilm plan for the future, especially something as big as that?

Rubbish/wishful thinking, I tells you...

As much as I would like to see more movies set in the Star Wars universe, because it is SUCH a huge galaxy with so much detail available from the EU...I wouldn't want to see the original characters involved, which definitely kills most of the potential sources for such a movie.

If its going to happen, I would hope there would be a period of twenty-thirty years or so before they got started again. If not , well, that would probably be for the best.

I've actually seen EP7-9 plans floating around somewhere on the web (IIRC, it was on TheForce.Net but I'm not too sure) - and in that version, it was set after NJO.

I don't know why a lot of people at the Fark forums (link below) anyone would think the Thrawn Trilogy would be adapted into Episodes 7-9. If Lucas insists on creative control of the story if not the director's chair and the script, would he adapt EU novels into what is supposed to be a saga with a beginning and and end?

I forsee two things if he allows the third trilogy to be filmed:

1) It's gonna be way beyond the EU writers' playground

2) It's still going to be about the Skywalker legacy (that's what Star Wars is about aint it?)

3) Chewbacca will still be alive (considering how much he likes the character) putting much of the NJO EU to waste.
