Major Tierce, despite his flaws, was extremely loyal to the Empire and at least one man in particular, Grand Admiral Thrawn. What I'd like to know was why didn't he try to manuever his way in as an aide to Admiral Pellaeon, Grand Admiral Thrawn's protege? If Thrawn had approved of Pellaeon, why did not Tierce? Was Tierce too caught up in his own scheme for revenge?

Also, what would have happened if Tierce decided to be the loyal stormtrooper once more and join up with Pellaeon aboard the Chimera?

The Tierce in the Hand duology is not the real Tierce, but a clone of the original. The real Tierce was killed shortly after he executed Rukh, IIRC.

Nein, the clone Tierce was created 6 months BEFORE the Bilbringi incident. He was the stormtrooper commander aboard the Chimera. The real Tierce was killed on Genosis.

I take it you don't mean during the attack in AoTC. IIRC the origional Tierce was on of the Royal Guards (Red Robes) who, like most guards, was sent on active duty during periods where he wasn't assigned to guarding the emperor (or one of his store houses).

Yeah, evidently Genosis was part of Thrawn's campaigns as well.

Probably ego mostly. Remember Thrawn closed down the experiment after a while and I believe the clone's ego was a factor in that. They didn't have Thrawn's dettachment and impartiality.

Teirce probably considered Pelleaon an inferior and never more so than when he was planning on making peace with the Republic. Remember Pelleaon was never the kind of leader and warlord Thrawn was. In fact for a long time he was merely fleet commander to one of the core warlords. That's not going to sit well with some one like Tierce with his ego.

Probably. Or he knew Pellaeon would never go for some of the schemes Tierce was thinking about. Remember, Thrawn wanted leaders probably to help shore up the defenses for whatever horrible threat he saw coming, as he had scattered cloned warriors who would jump to the defense of their world regardless of political affiliation. Tierce was just one tracked on the New Order and death to the Rebellion.

But remember, at first Tierce agreed that Pellaeon was right, the numbers were too heavily slanted and if Peallaeon did not wish to fight, there was no other leader for the troops to follow. Perhaps Tierce was just using Disra to get some more licks in for the Rebellion before it all crumbled, and that's when he decided to take things a few steps too far.

But I don't understand the disrespect he has for Pellaeon. Tierce clearly respected Thrawn as he jumped like a scared cadet to attention in Flim's presence. And Thrawn chose Pellaeon, not Tierce. So could it have been jealousy?

I haven't read VotF in a looooong time, so I don't know...was it mentioned in there, or did they come up with this later?

Ah, thanks... I should probably try and find my hardcover copy of it sometime and re-read. It was a good one.

Actualy Tierce knew about Disra's plans the entire time. Remember this. Tierce was manipulating Disra the whole time.

He was a hybrid clone. He combined Tierce's loyalty to the new order as a Royal Guardsman with some of Thrawns tactical genusis. Thrawn wanted a tacticaly briliant leader who would be the core of local resistance groups that he was spreading around the Galaxy.

On another note, its weird how Thrawn apparently knew of the comming of the Vong so far in advance to prepare for a possible failing of oganised resistence.

He didn't. In Dark Journey we learn the Chiss have never fought the Yuuzhan Vong before, and the great threats they fought were other enemies.

Since there's no proof Thrawn knew of the Vong and the YV storyline had not been formulated when Vision of the Future was written, it is up to you to back-up that rather gaping unjustified assumption.
