Is there any objective doubt that they're overhyped? No. Regardless, I will re-type. I would term it "looking at the evidence" rather than "poisoning the well".

Of course they are overhyped.

But they are also not as low-level as some people make them out to be.

Hell, before Gamer5 i would have given them a single planet with a half dozen outposts and perhaps thirty gunship-sized vessels.

No one is saying otherwise. But for a major civilization their rather pitiful. A single Imperial assault fleet or one of the Republic numbered fleets could conquer the Chiss homeworlds.

They sound a bit like a good place for the full might of the Borg to have some success with asimilation.
