A question about Alderaan's Planetary Shield

I have read most of the Star Wars novels that have been written and have seen all of the movies. I have yet to see a statement that states that Alderaan has a planetary shield. Could you tell me the source, and quote it if possible, that states where Alderaan has a shield?

Star Wars - Episode IV: A New Hope theatrical film, original and Special Edition versions.
Proof through observation.

The ANH novelization states that Alderaan had defenses equaling any other planet in the Empire. Coruscant had planetary shields, so did Byss and those were in the Empire.

The movie is a good source:

Yes, but the new version has something similar. Just not quite so obvious.

If direct observation isn't sufficient, use common sense. The Rebels could field a Planetary Shield Generator on Hoth (and presumably on Yavin, but I'm not sure) that could withstand orbital bombardment from an Imperial fleet. Not only this but the Imperials could do the same at Endor. Both (or all 3) planets/moons had no extensive industrial assets, no major population centres, weren't centres for culture, art or civilisation. They weren't a core member, in fact they were located in the Outer Rim.
Using the above facts, how could Alderaan NOT have a planetary shield? Particularly since a mere pirate ship could cause massive destruction? (that's conjecture, I know, but the Imperials aren't the only guys with big ships and heavy guns)

Still, the new version still allows for no other reasonable explanation, a fact the people in the 101st RSA brigade refuses to acknowledge, a sad reflection on the educational system really.
