Is the Clone Wars Cartoon series canon? (or "quasi-cano

Sorry if this has been asked and answered already on here (couldn't remember), but do we have any idea how 'official' in the official continuity the Clone Wars series on cartoon network is?

Because we saw a lot of interesting technology related stuff (including lightsabers that work under the ocean for extended periods in combat with no problems).

Thanks in advance!

Star Wars: Clone Wars is on the official level.

All the previous television incarnations of SW have been official, and the Clone Wars entries on SW.com's Databank are in the EU section.

No no no...

Official = Official

Canon = Canon

Or:

Extended Universe (novels, comics, games, guides...) = Official

Films, novelisations, scripts, radio dramas, ICSs = Canon

That's how it's always been. Official is Canon when it's not contradicted by Canon.

Just to be more precise:
EU = Apocrypha = Official

Actually, I beleive the term 'apocrypha' is used for less-than-official status material, such as game mechanics, some Marvel comics, and the like. The Prophets of the Darkside book set might also fall under this category, assuming it's ever even mentioned anymore.

Everything outside the movies and their directly related literature is considered only "quasi-canon". That's not to say it's worthless, but it's treated as a history rather than an observation. And of course, the fact that it's obviously hand-drawn means that even under suspension of disbelief, we must assume that somebody in SW actually drew it based on what he saw, hence there is more interpretation and artistic license than an imaginary SW cameraman.

If it's canon, the clone troopers are some bad-ass mothas. The whole tank-entery was great.(When one of the blue clone troopers jumps up the tank, jumps up and fires at the top, drops in, kicks ass, and jumps out to safty.)

They're official but they are given a sort of priority official status from what I understand.

That's true. Based on the commentaries for the chapters on the official site, Lucas had a lot of direct input into what appeared in the show.

For example it was Lucas who decided that there would be Geonosian fighters in the space battle over Muunilist rather than the Droid fighters Tartakovsky and co. had planned on originally.

Quasi-Canon in my humble opinion, based on the complete fuck-up of first contact with Mon Calamari.

By that I assume you mean that the Mon Calamari "first contact" as you call it happens differently elsewhere in the EU?

What do we do when two EU sources contradict each other but the canon sources are silent?

I'm so fucking tired of the term "quasi-canon," ugh. It sounds so measly and dodgy. They should just use the term "official" in regards to the EU and save themselves further embarassment...

I mean the pre-Clone Wars first contact with the Empire taking over the planet - that's more fitting to me than the Clone Wars origin.

Well you never know, the Empire might still take it over later.

Perhaps in a "peacekeeping mission" occupation or something...

I'd say both version of Moncal first contact are in error. I mean Moncal has Galactic Senator and is therefore a sector capital. Not much chance that it was recently discovered. We have Quaren gangsters, and senators, and even Mon Cal Jedi running around. It pretty obvious that the Mon Cal just like the Wookiee's were major players before the time of the empire. Now the Empire did ocuppy the Mon Cal home world and enslave its people, but the first contact story has obviously been retroconned.

sorry to broach a touchy subject again but...

Incidentally (and not to start a fight or anything), does this mean the Star Wars Holiday Special is also official?

Or is it not because GL stated he wanted to "burn every copy" ? ; )

I mean I know everybody hates Glove of Darth Vader but that's still official according to the "official policy" too right?

I believe the Glove of Darth Vader has been declared apocrypha, with the "infinities" symbol and all.

I'm surprised that TGoDV series was even being published recently enough to get the Infinities label...

Kind of. Essentially, the Trioculus affair is mentioned in the Essential Chronology, but their view-point was that the Moff's were attempting to move against Yssane Isard, who at that point was in control of the Empire. It even states that Isard was the one who let loose Jabba's father, Zorba, into the fray in order to foster chaos against those who dared oppose her. With Trioculus, Zorba, and, as they put it, a shadowy group of Mystics called the Prophets of the Dark Side, having wiped themselves out, Isard executed the Moffs involved with the conspiracy, thereby stabilizing her position as head of the Empire.

(Of course, they dropped the whole Ken & the City of the Jedi/Han marries Leia early-sbuplot, thankfully)
