Your idea of a GOOD tv-show based on the Star Wars universe

Okay people, this isn't a thread to make everyone say a lot of shit that "it must not happen" or whatever, but an attempt to decide an interesting setting, avoid pitfalls that would make it extremely sucky, etc.

This is my first attempt at an interesting thread, hope you like it...

Forget about numbers and power estimations (i.e. "I want to be able to accurately measure the amount of megawatts in a turbolaser").

For instance, there's already an idea out there in another thread: avoid the typical "one ship, one crew" traveling along the galaxy doing stuff and solving problems. Which kind of plot(s) would we use instead? Would at least be a main cast of characters? Is there any other existing tv-show that you would copy?

I'm not familiar with the EU settings, only with the movies so far, so please elaborate a bit instead of just saying "post-NJO". Not just the entire storyline, mainly who the good guys and the bad guys are, ships of note, etc.

This all is entirely hypothetical, of course. Please no Trekkie wankin' here either (don't mean that nobody mention the show, just no "use more technobabble" or "use the 'better' designed ships/uniforms from Trek" shit)

Two ideas...

The "West Wing" style show based on Coruscant.

A Seinfeld in space.

I think a tv show about the life of an imperial fighter pilot after it retakes the galaxy would be cool

Pretty much, though I had the idea for a Seinfeld in space a long long time ago in a newsgroup called ASVS.

I think it would be a different take on the SW universe. Just some average people watching the galaxy fall apart around them.

Whatever it is, here's what I'd like to see: "More blasters, less Lightsabres".

Maybe a TROOPS series. That would be awesome.

Or a series in the vein of the movie or comic book Clerks (the cartoon pretty much sucked), that would take place on Coruscant.

But any serious, dramatic series should definitely have a storyarc that's all laid out before the series begins, so that it has a projected end date. Like Cowboy Bebop, etc. Otherwise it would eventually turn into unoriginal crap (think Star Trek).

A series of tv shows like the books in Order

    e.g Rouge Squadren or NJO

    OR

a show of the life in the Imperial Navy

Maybe a "Lower Decks" type show would work.

Yes, Birth of the Rebellion? IE when Wedge is just a Kid or somthing showing how the Rebel allance started

Or we can follow the Chiss :D

Wait I got it! Talon Karrade! We could follow him before the Rebellion and all that stuff, He's fourty by the time Solo and Co run into him... Hmm that gives you.. five to eight seasons from starting to be a smuggler ending up with him assuming control of syndict, and allows for lots of interactions like seeing Papy give a spech on the Holo vid while they discuss the next job/hit (Remeber the recent crook and crimal shows? Well think of that but in SW)

How about one about Baron Fel, it could show at the beginning of his service to the empire when he didn't question orders. And as the series progresses you slowly see him become more and more disaffected with the empire.

I think it might be best if the show followed around typical members of the SW Galaxy on a given planet or in a particular city or settlement for a certain period of time (a week, or an episode). Over the course of a few months, the characters would slowly reveal many of the interactions that took place amongst their surroundings, allowing us to look into the lives of typical members of the SW Galaxy and also showing us how their actions and inactions affected one another.

The Red Saber Diaries - Soft core sex in the SW Universe, any time frame. 8) Lots of Amidala (She's got all of those secuirty guys and handmaidens waiting on her. It's a porn cliché that something must be going on.

Maybe Dark Side Diaries would be a better title? Or, this title could be used to document the life of various Sith, master or apprentice?

An Anthology type show that has some continuity with itself in the same
way that the Outer Limits has tied some of it's episodes together. It could
be about all kinds of Star Wars related things.

Darth Buffy: The Jedi Slayer - I guess this idea would violate canon wouldn't it? Oh well, I bet I could sell it to B/B as Ensign Crusher: Borg Basher

Since someone already did the Cops thing with Troops why not a show that does that? There could also be a version for the Imperial Navy and one for the Jedi.

The Empire's Most Wanted - A show set somewhere after Ep III and before ROTJ. Could have guest appearances by various bounty hunters.

Well, I would watch it, but I don't think that these would be on the list of shows I was proud of sitting down to every week.

Or one about the crew of the first ISD off the shipyards at kuat.

B5 like story arc that goes from the rise of the empire to the empires fall. Have it show the lives and experiences of the crew as they attempt to fight off the rebel terrorists. Lots of combat, lots of drama, stormtrooper tk345 having an affair with stormtrooper pt984 etc.

A show detailing Thrawn's mission in the Unknown Regions.

    I agree with you 100%
Maybe have one or two Jedi "good guys" at most, who aren't even of the main character cast.

I'd make the show around some non-military group. Not Imperials and possibly not Rebels. They would probably be good guys, but not in any established organization: traders, smugglers, or just regular space guys who get caught in the middle of things.

Perhaps one that deals with either the smuggles and/or bounty hunters of the SW universe. Focus on one crew of either a smuggler ship or bounty hunter ship, hell why not both.

A few years before ANH, the crew of the smuggling ship FarStar, a Coreillian YT 2000, struggles to make a living by trading legal and illegal goods why all around them the galaxy sinks to civil war.
Unknown to the crew of the FarStar, a long ago wronged customer has hired a unrelenting bounty hunter to seek revenge upon our hero's. Fast on the trail of the smugglers, Than Alantil quickly manuvers himself into a position to strike at the smugglers and secure his paycheck.
Their battles will rage across the galaxy from known locations to new and spectacular ones, with some familure face's and unknown creatures. :D

How about something progressive. It's possible for them to have many seasons, 7 like Trek or in upwards of 10 like the Simpsons. Maybe even extending the length of a season. Back to the progressive part. Start at the beginning of the Republic and see things unfold for a few shows (that last about an hour). Then maybe sometime around 10,000-15000 years later in the 'golden age' of the Republic. then at the end of the first season, events prior to TPM. With that taken care of, the next season could cover events between TPM and AotC. Then, of course between AotC and Ep III. Keeping it going, Ep III to ANH events. I think you guys get the jist so far. However, in what is prior to Ep III, the occasional incident or story involving Jedi. Everything else is at blaster point. Basically, I think like some of the other posters have already said, start with someone obscure and see how they effect the next people in the story arc. Eventually it will get down to having a story that involves say Adi Galia or another council member. People we've seen in the movies. A Smuggler employed by the Hutts. Talon Karrdes' rise. Eventually when the Galactic Civil War errupts move it to show the Imperial side. Then move and show the Rebel side. Ground battles, infiltrations. One seaon needs to be dedicated to Rogue Squadron and show how the pilots grew stronger and became close friends. Seeing Luke's reaction (or lact there of) when Dack died and Zev was blasted maybe show members getting vaped so that when a pilot is killed they over look it until the battle was done. I'll shut up for now, and post more later.

The life and time of a droid. Have one droid and follow as the automaton goes from one owner to another. One maybe a good guy, one a bad ass.He see's all the things life in different parts of the galaxy has to offer. Kinda like the Droids cartoon, except in a serious tone.

I got a couple of ideas. First off a Star Wars Tv show based on the ideas of how the StarGate SG-1 goes about, maby out of wimsy.

Another idea can be of a young Rebel trying to make a start in life while the Rebel Alliance is not really powerful at the time. He can go to planet to planet with a crew that grows inside, does missions for Leia before she was old enough to leave Alderrann and in a couple of episodes he can get a nice fleet going and it turns out hes acutally Bel Iblis at a young age.

Or we get a nice NJO going that only us SW fans know just like the ST series that if i watch them i dont know what the hell is going on and dont wanna know. If the show is meant for SW fans only it can go into greater detail that to us will be the greatest thing that has happend to SW. It can be centerd out of a small fleet much like my roleplaying SW guild thing.. its kinda dead now though :(
