death star superlaser placement

The superlaser is usually seen placed on the death star's upper hemisphere, about half-way between the equitorial trench and the "north pole".

But I vaguely remember some photos of the superlaser on the equitorial trench itself...is this just a prop goof-up, or does the death star have more than one superlaser?

best bet would be a prop goofup imo. it's doubtful the death star would have enough resources to run 2 superlasers.

IIRC, its from preproduction art that had the SL in the horizontal axis

The only thing we see of this early design stage, is the screwed up scematic graphic from the plans, where the main weapon is also at the equator. (Boy, would it had been so complicated to correct that in the SE?)

Didn't the hologram which was shown on Geonosis in AOTC have the superlaser on the equitorial trench?

Nope.

That one is correct.

the one that R2D2 shows in a new hope during the briefing on the death star assault has the DS with the SL on it's equator.
