The best snub-fighter pilots

Well I am wondering who would be considered the best of the snub-fighter pilots in Star Wars? I am talking about the best pilots when all natural abilities are taken into account. This means the force can be accounted.

Here is my general ranking.

Luke Skywalker

Wedge Antilles and Baron Fel

Jag Fel, Jaina Solo, Kyp Duron

Corran Horn, Mara Jade

Tycho Celchu (I think that if the others didn't have the force he would be above Corran, Jaina, Kyp, and Mara, but he falls just below these people when they use the force)

Wes Janson, Hobbie Kleevan, Gavin Darklighter

Did I miss any of the good pilots or do you think I miss placed them?

Honorable Mentions whom I can't really place on the list.

Commander Varth
Pash Cracken
Oyrl Qryeg
Aril Numb

Yeah, you missed one of the best pilots in Star Wars: Han-FUCKING-Solo! I mean, how can you miss Han? Good ol' Han. :(

Han wasn't primarily a starfighter pilot. :P

You missed Keyan Farlander and Maarek Stele.

I am intentionaly leaving out the Tie-Fighter pilot. I could also have put Ace Azzameen on there as well. Their stories are trumped up a little high.

Who is Farlander? The X-Wing pilot?

Yes, Keyan Farlander is the pilot from The Farlander Papers, which accompanied the X-Wing strategy guide. He's also been referenced in the Essential Guide to Planets and Moons, as well as a few novels. He is a Force-user.

And yeah, you could include Ace Azzameen too. Sure, their exploits are seemingly larger-than-life, but they're official characters. I'd like to know what your reasoning for excluding them is, other than "they're really good."

One comment: in I, Jedi, Corran couldn't beat Tycho even while flying with the Force. Did he improve by a large amount since then?

And I think Turr Phennir should be on there...somewhere.

Corran Horn should be struck from the list due to the fact that he's Corran Horn...

:P

You know what, despite all the flak that the character gets, I liked Corran Horn. :?

Though Wedge is the best pilot of them all. Force or no Force.

Why do people dislike Corran Horn?

Because he's a do everything best jack of all trades self-insertion character of Stackpole.

Ever heard the term Mary Sue-ing? Or self-insertion? A lot of people think that Mike Stackpole did that with Corran.

Mary Sue-ing is creating a character that rarely/never meets an obstacle they can't handle.

Self insertion is creating a character that is mostly or totally based off your own personality.

Both imply lazy writing, and a lot of people accuse Stackpole of it.

IIRC, it was because he was handicapped by the fact didn't want to fly against Tycho and the other Rogues with deadly intent.

*Smacks everyone in the thread about the head and neck with a lead pipe*

You're all fools!! Everyone knows there is only one true snub fighter pilot in the galaxy and that would be the 9 year old who took out a Trade Federation Control ship and then later pretty much wiped out nealry 2 squardrons of rebel X-Wings and Y-Wings with little/no help! You want it spelt out!?

It's fucking Anakin Skywalker-Darth Vader!!!!

Duh.

I have a feeling we'll see how good Anakin really is in Episode 3 *crosses fingers*.

Meanwhile Wedge Antilles is the only man to survive two Death Star Runs. And IIRC he's got more kills than any other alliance pilot.

but the real Answer is...

KETTCH! "Bleed and Die! Yub Yub!"

So according to you, H.P. Lovecraft was a lazy writer because some of his characters were based upon himself??

I can not list Keyan Farlander because according to the X-Wing series HE destroyed the Death Star, not Luke. It is obvious that the X-Wing series itself is not totaly in line with Star Wars. Furthermore I can not properly list him because of game mechanics. Their exploits are grossly out of proportion and its highly unlikely that if they existed they would have near so many kills. Either way we have no proper way to judge him.

The very same goes for Maarek Stele and Ace Azameen except for the fact they didn't destroy the Death Star.

No, mary sueing refers to stuff like fanfics, where the author character is so all-powerful that he can trump major characters and decide the story arc. It would be like if you suddenly wrote yourself into LOTR and you possessed the ability to warp the ring power to your own use and challenge Sauron, Gandalf and everybody combined.

There was an episode on Buffy, the Vampire Slayer that "touched" on this. Basically, this guy get some magic stuff that makes him into a "Mary Sue" of Buffy the Vampire Slayer TV show. Everybody likes him, he's smart, brillant, caustic wit, popular with the guys and girls and he can kick ass, even better than the main character.

No, because Lovecraft was a good writer that knew how to write characters, as PainRack said... Quite unlike Stackpole.

You really have to learn not to interpret people so literally.

Anakin SOLO was a supposed to be an excellant pilot was he not? Unless your only considering Pilots who flew regular combat missions in the miltary. Which means you should really take off Jade from your list.

Anyway i don't remember Jade being a hot-hand with a fighter? Dowsn't she prefer her shuttle?

Gavin Darklighter had his ass handed to at the start of the NJO by Wedge and Tycho, so i think he needs struck off the list. Wedge has stated in the Wraith books that in terms of pure skill Luke Skywalker is the best in the Galaxy. Jaina is pretty up there but still no Wedge Antilies. Pash Cracken deserves a mention IMHO.

Bizzt.

The Farlander Papers clarify that Farlander was flying escort above the Death Star and did not make the shot. Farlander is an exceptionally good pilot and is also part of the missions to capture the Death Star plans. He later becomes a NRDF General, and commands a fleet in Destiny's Way.

General, Emperor's Hand, and Secret Order of the Empire Emperor's Reach Steele is one of the best pilots to ever fly under the Empire. Steele Chronicles and Gamer verify his plot exploits are canonical and he IS one of the Emperor's Hands.

So we throw out the games for the most part and just look at the chronicles. In that case we don't truly have enough information to properly rank Farlander, Steele, or Azzameen. They become honorable mentions.
