Cannon SSD size?

Post by Shroom Man 777 »

The SW site says the SSD, Executor, is 8 km long. I need verifiable proof that the SSD is 17km, I need something hard and can be posted. I don't want any speculation, even from someone who is very qualified, like this Saxon guy.

I just need it for a friendly debate, thank you. The guy said he's read all but the NJO series.

...

are you serious? Just go to Saxton's website. End of debate. Furhtermore, the SW site says it's 12,800m long, which is nothing but the cowardly average between the original, catastrophically wrong 8km length and the true 17.6km length. Interesting, isn't it?

Is Saxon spouting out truth or speculation?

Gimme a link, I'm not really up to date with SW internet info.

End of debate, indeed.

Edit: His name is Saxton, not Saxon.

Saxtons calculations are based on ONSCREEN evidence. Visuals overide any other source.

Saxton's site...

... is like Basic Education. If you hadn't even read it once, I suggest you take a brief respite and skim it from front to end.

The Super Star Destroyer Page

Saxtons' Track Record of the 5-mile fallacy

Whether it is the Truth itself or mere speculation is a fundamental philosophy problem.

As you know, Star Wars does not have a lot of technical dialogue in canon. So there are no ranges, no lengths or anything (with the exception of that "parsec" thing by Solo) in the dialogue.

But does that mean the canon is totally silent on ship lengths? No, of course not. The canon movie is the VISUAL and the DIALOGUE together, and the ship is clearly shown on screen. This allows us to see how big it is.

The trick with scaling is to compensate adequately for perspective. But competent scaling is based on OBSERVATIONS of the CANON film. When using scientific methods to analyze a particular sci fi, observations of canon film are as good a source as it ever gets.

Not to mention the official actually shoots itself in its own foot. It can't even decide whether the Executor is 5 or 8 miles long. What kind of reliable source is that?

BTW.... why couldn't Solo actually have meant "parsecs" as distance, why must everyone assume he meant "parsecs" as a measurement of time. From what I understand from the EU Kessel is Really close to the MAW and has only certain "Safe" ways of getting there. Why couldn't Han have been boasting about his ships speed and power by telling Luke and Obi how he managed to cut the distance needed to travel to Kessel by taking a dangerous course?

If you I think that's the best rationalization out there, and lucky us, its official too :D

But I'm really pointing out how few Measurement Units as a whole in any form are used in the films.

Next to nobody assumes he meant "parsecs" as a unit of time. Most just assume he was bragging his fool ass off.

This was one of my first questions, and the thread was summarily locked. Right, well not all of us get out the ol' tape measure whenever we watch The Empire Strikes Back. :P

Honestly, I'm surprised nobody locked this thread yet. The question's only been asked and answered a million times or so.

Anyway, you don't need a tape measure. In the opening shot of the SSD vs an ISD, you can easily tell with the naked eye that the SSD is far larger than 5x a regular ISD.

But since it's an ancient question, and since it's not likely to generate any kind of original or interesting discussion, and since it's already been answered, there's no use for this thread.
