Okay, of all the pre-Galactic Alliance factions in the Star Wars Galaxy (from the same century as the OT, thus excluding the Sith, Krath, Mandalorians, etc.) which one is your favorite?

The Empire has my vote on coolness factor alone, but I'm also impressed with its efficient orginization and effective warfighting capabilities.

Eeek. I'm torn between the Empire and Alliance/New Republic. I've always liked the Rebels and New Republic, and the Empire is just so badass (what other sci-fi faction has such cool theme music?).

I chose the Rebels. There's something to be said by a bunch of rebels who are outgunned and outnumbered yet they still kick arse. Of course, I'm a fan of the Empire as well. There's something to be said by an organisation that can build death-dealing Moon-sized battlestations, full of black clad crewmen with funny helmets (the rebels also get the funny helmet claim too). Tough choice, but the rebels ultimately win anyway so... 8)

[EDIT]I forgot to ask, but who the hell are the Ssi-ruvvi?

The Ssi-Ruuvi are a race of warm blooded saurians who rule a sizable star cluster on the edge of the Galaxy. They attacked the Empire in Truce at Bakura.

Did they succeed? How much of a threat are they? Why aren't they in the other EU books? What happens to them?

The Rebels join forces with the Empire and chase them out of the system. The Imperial pressence on Bakura was light and had the Rebels not responded to a Bakuran message drone they would have been overwhelmed. The Ssi-Ruuvi are quite a threat indeed, but they are a peculiar enemy. They power their ships with a bizzare process called "entechment". This harnesses the life energy of living beings and uses it to power circuits. Since they always need new life forms to entech, their ships are bristling with ion cannons. Destroying an enemy vessel is considered a waste. However, the Rebel/Imperial alliance was able to manipulate them via their religious superstitions. They believe that if they die away from their homeworld that their spirit wanders space for all eternity. For this reason battle droids and P'w'ecks (a related slave species) do all their fighting for them.

I limited the choices to governments that rule (or have ruled) sizable portions of the Galaxy. Also, Corellia was always loosely affiliated with the Empire and the Old and New Republics.

They appear again in one of the Force Heretic NJO books, and attempt to take Bakura again by "consecrating" the planet under the false pretense of a peace agreement, thereby allowing their warriors to attack themselves instead of relying on droids and slaves.

The New Republic uses Star Destroyers not the Rebellion. Rebels rely on their MC80S cruisers when faced with Star Destroyers.

I liked the Imperial Reminant best. Still has the class of the old Imperials but with most of the racism and biggotry cut out.

Everything Lazy Raptor said plus, after the Ssi-Ruuvi were driven from Bakura the Rebels sent a fleet to their cluster and found that they had already been attacked by the Chiss (Grand Admiral Thrawn's species) and that the Ssi-Ruuvi were in a very bad shape.

And all I have to say is, LONG LOVE THE GALACTIC EMPIRE!!!!!!

The Empire is the Old Republic with a new paint job, and a new government. Therefore, the Empire existed, in a different itineration, for millenia.

I vote the Galactic Empire. By far the most efficient organization, the coolest, and it's led by Palpatine, so it has my vote by default. And the Imperial Remnant should have it's own poll option.

I'm going with the CSA. There is just something great about a corporation (or multiple corporation joint venture whichever you prefer) which dominates as much territory as many minor powers and maintains its own fllet while profiting hugely off of every transaction made throughout an entire sector of space. Oh yes and the Espos are just great hard asses.

Bah. The Rebles/NR doesn't use them on the same scale as the Empire. The Empire should have won, and gets my vote.

My vote goes for the first option mainly because it includes the Galactic Republic. After all, it's not an easy task to keep a galaxy together for thousands of years ... And I like the Old Jedi Order more than the new one ... could it be because of a green little Jedi Master?

The Mon Mothma is a pretty cool variant off of the standard Imperial class. What with its gravity well projectors and all.
