Home-One

Yes, it's another one of my questions, again to aid in my writing of 'The Best of Both Worlds'...

We all know Home-One as the MC80 Mon Cal cruiser that served as the
command ship at Endor and as Admiral Ackbar's flagsghip during that crucial segment of the Galactic Civil War.

However, does anyone know what became of the ship following Endor? I know it remained in service for some time, but it's ultimate fate is still a mystery to me.

Thanks.[/i]

First off, Home One was not an MC80. The MC80 was a much, much shorter design.

Home One measured approximately 3.2 kilometers in length. The MC80, by comparison, measures 1.2 kilometers.

As for when it retired, I'm not sure.

My bad about the MC80 confusion (and ditto for Walter Jon Williams; the presence of MC80's in 'Destiny's Way' was one of the major nitpicks that book 14 of the NJO received).

Anyway, thanks for your help.

When were there MC80s in Destiny's Way? I remeber a couple of MC80Bs which are supposed to 1.2 k long

OT:Home One was replaced as the flagship of the NR by the Galactic Voyager by the time of Darksaber at the least. It was proberly retired from surface by the time of your fanfic, if you want to use it you could make some referene to it being mothballed but restored to service due to captial ship shortages.

Was Home One one of the converted passanger liners or was it an warship from day one?

No idea the convert passenger liner is more likely though IMHO.

I figured it might have been a born and bred war ship because of the size difference between it and other Mon Cal Cruisers.

Possibly but for me that counts against it. How long had the mon cals been allied with the RA at this point? There unlikely to have designed and built a 3.2 kilometre battleship in this time.

Ackbar was freed from Tarkins service just before the battle of Yavin, not long afterwards he convinced his planet to convert it's cruise liners to war ships.

Not sure when it was retired, but it was still in service at the time of Wraith Squadron.

Home One was one of the first dedicated warships that the Calamari shipyards made as of endor, mostly the Cruiser fleet were converted from anouther use

hope that helps :)

The Home One (an MC-85, IIRC) was retired and Ackbar used the Defiance, the first MC90, instead. Defiance first shows up in Dark Empire, during the reborn Emperor's attack on the Mon Calamari homeworld.

I hear that a lot, but I can never find the source.

I think the people who made up the designations for the ships were not very good at counting up in ones, only in fives....

First, yes there was an apperance of an MC80 in DW with I know some wre confused about since they were believed to no longer be in service. Of course, given the ship losses, it could very well have been refitted.

As for my fanfic, aside from refrences, I have several ideas of how to bring in 'Home One', but nothing concrete yet...

Home One is almost certainly a converted liner, abliet a much larger one than the MC80-type and the Liberty-class.

Home One is sufficently powerful enough that it can take on two ISDs with a 50/50 chance of winning. Its power lies in its shields and armor. It had less weaponry then one ISD. Given Home Ones size and firepower, its most definately a converted cruise liner.

Home One is probably a dedicated carrier and command vessel anyways, abliet one with exceptionally strong shielding. However, I agree with Saxton's supposition that "29" turbolasers is a transposition, that seems like entirely too few for a vessel of such size and prestiege.

What do we know about the Home Ones fighter wing ? Were they one of the Rebellions top pilots ?

Given Home ones poor arcs of fire and hanger location its near certainly a cruise liner modification. Though might have been built from the start as a warship, but using design that is only a modification of a liner, conversion during construction is also possibul. Heck, the whole thing could have been assembled out of spare parts (the US military has done it with aircraft)

i could have sworn i had seen sonething about Home-One being the first purley milatary ship that the yards made..... something in the EU

The Nebulon - B frigate was a pure military design. So the Home One is hardly the first true military warship use by the Rebellion.

no , i mean thats the first miltary vessal that the Mon Calamari made after Ackbar asked his people to join the Alliance.

And i thought that the Nebulon Frigates were nicked of the Imperials?

Yes Nebulon Bs were an Imperial design but the Rebellion also uses them.

Nothing is known about her fighter group, only that she carriers 120 fighters.
