I was wondering what the most advanced technology in the Star Wars Galaxy. I believe it to be Artoo since:
*He can hack into the MOST advanced Imperial Technology when he is lets see at least 30-40 years older than the Eclipse II that he hacked in to and destroyed Byss.
*Rocket boosters.
*Never dies after being shot how my times.
Also other canidates.....Happy voteing and thanks for reading my article....

Trying to cover up our mistakes, are we?
Tsk tsk tsk, that won't go over well.

Well I figure that the Galaxy gun can do the same job as the Death Star and it does not have to risk itself by actually going to the planet. Not to mention the missiles have one of the fastest hyperdrives, strongects shields and armor, and they are able to tone down their effect to the size of a ship or planet.
Weird question, could the galaxy gun missles take out the Death StarI/II by going into their Hypermatter reactors?

The most advanced technology is IMO the Aii'Ting monk stardrive. Crossing the galaxy in about a second, anyone?
The most powerful ship/superweapon on the poll is a completed DS2. Only another superlaser could destroy it. If it isn't completed, then I vote Galaxy Gun, as it has that long range-firing, moon-busting feature.

What about the lightsaber, it is so advanced that no one else has been able to replicate it except the Jedi who have kept it secret for thousands of years.

Source?
I'm with Bob Brown on that. The idea that the lightsabre is somehow something magical or ultra-arcane that engineers and scientists couldn't deal with it is dumb.
Its a piece of technology, nothing more, nothing less.

Does anyone other than a Jedi wield a lightsaber in either the EU or the films? Even the comics have we ever seen anyone using something akin to a lightsaber? I don't have an explanation for it but the sourece material can support my position can it support yours?

:bashes head into desk repetatively:
Do you grasp the
enormous gaping leap in logic of going from "only Force users choose to wield such weapons" to "only Jedi and Sith can build lightsabres."
First of all, only Force users have the instinctual and sensing abilities to wave a weightless blade effectively without slicing their arm off.
Second, most combatants use blaster weapons. Only Force users can deflect and defend against blasters with a lightsabre.
That right there makes it vastly biased toward Force users just for being able to use it and not get your ass killed.

Lightsabers are said to be rare items. If they could be made easily, someone would be making a lot of money off of them.

There are many uses that a lightsaber like weapon can have aside from war. Its a blade that can cut through anything, I'm sure that would be useful in construction, manufacture, what have you. Could be a good weapon to use as a back up for soldiers, lightsabers could be menacing to use in breaking up crowds and controlling civilians and unarmed folks. You could even have a small swiss army like blade for a soldier's survival kit.
All I'm pointing out is that nowhere in the movies do we see anything remotely close to a saber, the EU (an area where I am most ignorant of) doesn't seem to have anything like lightsabers. The WEG materials also supported the idea that a lightsaber was exceedingly rare in the SW galaxy viewed as more like an objet d'art during the Imperial era, etc.

I can't imagine how hard it is to wield a blade you have no muscle memory control over. There's no leverage to work the blade, so its useless for tools, and for industry, plasma drill-based systems work great.

Maybe because its nearly exclusively wielded by Jedi because its fucking impossible and there's virtually none of them, and they're considered mythical and arcane.

And if a saber could be easily reproduced why didn't Luke simply ask the rebellion to build him one after ESB instead of going to Ben's hut and working from secret files Ben had for just such an occasion? There has to be a reaosn why the Jedi kept this technology such a closely guarded secret that in fact one of the big rites of passage for a padawan was to build his own saber.

Out of the choices, Death Star II definitely represents the greatest technological achievement in Star Wars. Even discounting the off-axis superlaser, the sheer size of the thing is testimony to the ability to bend the laws of physics.

There's no evidence the Jedi kept it a secret. In a galaxy of fifty-one million inhabited member and colony worlds and quadrillions of citizens, an arcane weapon used by a diddly ten-thousand people who're all dead, and you expect all military machine shops to be tooled to make that shit?!
Do you have the slightest idea how assembly lines and mechinery to build stuff works? The Rebel Alliance doesn't have the machinery to build lightsabres on-demand because they have no need to have that machinery or dedicate said machinery to something so fucking useless.
In fact, the fact he could build this thing from parts available on Tattooine and mostly within Ben's
desert hut and a diddly furnace, and you think this has some magic and incomprehensible industrial base behind it? Lest you don't know it, he also went to Ben's hut to complete his self-training and practice in solitude where he had access to Jedi literature.
Your proposition is a violation of Occam's Razor. The rarity of the lightsabre is adequately explained by in-movie observations, without your unsubstanciated superfluous and fabricated assumption for why.

The Death Star, because of its size, reactor and superlaser. It sucks that the poll only has individual technological applications...
Otherwise, I'd say Hyperdrive.

Actually, Shadow Hunter says it is a technology the Jedi tried to keep a secret after the last sith war to prevent another dark side uprising.
Of course, they hadn't accounted for all the Sith, so...

That's the dumbest fucking thing I've heard today. They had all kinds of Dark Jedi rejects who knew how to build lightsabres, which is precisely how the last Sith arose, and that measure would do nothing to stop a repeat of that.
Not to mention they did precisely jack and shit about all the Sith artifacts laying around everywhere in the Outer Rim as the EU proves. Hell, this accounted for most of the other Sith resurgances.
That makes no fucking sense.

I tried to tell the guy to put an other or just plain change all of the options to actual tech, but he had already gotten a response. But ya, hyperdrive, superlaser, molecular armor, and stuff like that would be better.

IP, you still haven't addressed the funtionality of a small lightsaber acting as an emergenvy weapon. If they're so easy to make, why not replace vibro-blades with them?

Because vibro-blades work great without being extremely dangerous and needlesly over-complex and energy-intensive? The military doesn't like insanely dangerous-to-the-user and ultra-complex
combat knives...

in the jedi guide for the D20 system (or one of the D20 books), it mentions that when constructing a lightsaber a jedi tends to take time meditating with the crystals used for the emitter and imbue it with force energy or something similar. and that construction of a lightsaber could take anywhere between a few days and a few weeks, depending upon how much detail the jedi took in making it. additionally it requires a special power cell, which is twice as expensive as standard power cells to be used in the lightsaber.

Lightsabres are low-energy drawing. And vibroblades are quite dangerous themselves. Lightsabres have applications beyond simple cutting as well.

Light source, dissolving things, melting things. And cutting through almost evey substance in existance.
