Militarily, he's a Supreme Commander, according to Dark Empire I think.

Other than that, he's Lord Darth Vader, Dark Lord of the Sith.

The official title is "Miltary Executer"

Hmm, I seem to remember the Emperor giving Luke the title of Supreme Commander, which was the same rank Vader held.

But it has been some time since I've looked at DE or the source book.

I believe your correct, Spanky. We never heard his title cause all the officers knew that if they stepped out of line and challenged him, they'd end up dead.

Perhaps the DE sourcebook says, that but in the graphic novel, Supreme Commander seems more of an honorific. Luke and Sedriss are both called military Supreme Commander by their officers; but the captions and non-military personnel always referred to them as 'Executer' or 'Military Executer' so most likely both titles are in use.

I doubt Vader was the 'Supreme Commander' of all Imperial forces during ANH, as it very clear that his position is subservient to Tarkin's. Only after the character proved popular was his role increased. Also from what I've read, the Grand Admirals were directly under the Emperors control not Vader.

i think Vader was Lord Executor, a cool title and a good explanation for the name of his SSD

That's probably the role they perform. Executor seems to be used as a synomym for "right hand man". I'd wager money Supreme Commander is more of an honorific than actual.

I'd wager it's a rank given so that he can given order to the military. That way he can give orders to troops as needed and no one (except possibly a Grand Admiral or Grand Moff) can say no. I doubt either is actually military.

I thought Vader was picked because it was short for Invader, like Darth Sidious is short for Insidious, and Maul and Tyranus are pretty much self explainatory

Isn't Sidious an actual word too?

Insidious is a word, not Sidious itself. The point i was trying to say is that Lucas picked those names because of their negative connotations to make them more bad-guy-ish. Who waould want an evil emperor named Harold? So back to my other point before this point was that the name Vader was used, being short for invader, to make Vader have that said bad-guy-ish name. If that Dark Father thing is true them slap me around and call me Suzy, cuz I'm pretty sure it has to do with what I'm talkin bout .
