EP3: Mayew Also Signed for Sequel Trilogy?

Rob tells us that the December 2003 issue of the British movie mag HOTDOG has just hit the stands here in the U.S. and found several cool Star Wars related things. In particular, on page 12, here's this possibly amazing passage:
"No wonder Peter "Chewbacca" Mayhew is smiling. Not only has he been rescued from obscurity and given the chance to reprise his role as our Wookiee comrade for Episode III, but his contract also stipulates that he'd be required to appear in Episodes 7, 8, and 9.
Yes folks, seems there are actual whispers at Lucasfilm that the 'sequel' trilogy might be in the works..."
In addition, there's a cool spoiler page (though nothing new for TheForce.net regulars) with a great caricature of Hayden as Anakin/Vader. The cover "story" is a list of the "50 Coolest Movie Characters Ever". #22 is Boba Fett, #13 is Indiana Jones, and #3 is Darth Vader! There's also a "Brief History of Time" according to the movies. It begins with "A Long Time Ago".
Please. Be. True. Of course, remember that the official word from Lucasfilm has been and is currently "no." We'll email them for a comment on the story and post any updates here.

There is no way im going to so much as blink and eye because some obscure british movie magazine misinterpreted Mayhew and didnt so much as provide a quote. It would be one thing if we had a quote of Mayhew saying "my contract includes 7, 8 and 9". These rumors pop up every year or so, why is this any surprise?
now, IF there will be a sequel I hope it will be better than the original trilogy and what appeared by now of the prequel trilogy. but let's wait for Episode 3 first
If Lucas does decide to do the sequel trillogy, he'd better hurry it up. He getting too old for this sort of thing. Seriously, when I got the Indiana Jones box set for Christmas and watched the bonus commentary disk, I thought, "Damn, George looks horrible!" he's also a diabetic.
Also, if he is planning on 7, 8, and 9, it would make sense for him to keep it on the QT to keep the fans excited about ep 3.

Does TheForce.net=Bullshit because it is filled with rabid, drooling fanwhores who think Lucas adhered perfectly to OT continuity, or is there some other compelling reason? Perhaps Lucas' black helicopter pilots post there to dissuade real shit?
at any rate, He HAS forbidden novelizations some from writing about events immediately following episode 6, or so I hear, so mayhaps at least he's leaving his options open. and hell, with makeup and good CG (ie. NOT ILM, perhaps WETA?) Mark Hamill-20 pounds could even reprise his role as Puke Guystalker!
Theoretically, if this rumour is true, where would the story go? The only thing I can think of is a "Children of Jedi" thing, with Anakin, Jaina and Jacen Solo being the characters. And who would be the villians?
This is one of those things which you hope it pans out, but don't really expect to.

You should indeed. Even if it's true that doesn't necessarily mean that there's going to be an third trilogy, just that some one was thinking ahead to the possibility. What they describe is simply the optioning of actors for possible sequels. It's not that unusual in franchise projects and TV series.

What the fuck are you talking about?
theForce.net rumors are not reliable due to numerous old instances of them posting half-baked bullshit without corroboration and the sheer lack of support for this claim.

Whoa, there, killer. I was kidding around, no need to get hostile. I seriously didn't know. Was only curious, no need to be nasty. All I know is you guys always talk about how TheForce.net needs to be taken with an imperial ton of salt, which I'm okay with, I was just curious as to why.

I choose to speak in a sardonic and sometimes grating manner. By asking you "what the fuck are you talking about" I honestly had only the most vague clue what you were trying to say.
Ender can explain at length some of the crap about the guys who run TF.net and some of their greatest fuck ups.

Well despit their sometimes inaccurate reports, they are still the best source on the web for star wars news. Most the time these rumors are merely passed along, rather than stipulated as their own spy report and findings.
While probably just a rumor, I would love to see Episodes 7,8,9.
The no nonsense Star Wars fans at this board will certainly find
out if there is anything to this report or not.

Unless the sequel trilogy focuses on Jaina and Jacen Solo, and Ben Skywalker. Maybe even Luke can be in it as a real old guy, though the point of the 7, 8, and 9 episodes should focus on the children. Where the story goes from there is anyone's guess, but it'll be cool to see it onscreen. At least, in my opinion.
Who gives a shit about the EU? I'd like to see a sequel trilogy just so it can render the EU completely meaningless.
The problem with a sequel trilogy is that the story is done. Theres nowhere left to go. The rise, fall, redemption and death of Anakin skywalker. A complete arc. Anything that continues afterwards is going to seem arbitrary. Lucas compressed episodes 7, 8 and 9 into ROTJ, theres no need.
Or you could do sequels far into the future (about now, in a galaxy far, far away...) of the SW galaxy.

Not necessarily. The Galaxy is in a moment of transition at the end of ROTJ. A sequel trilogy can focus on defeating the rest of the Empire, or coming to a ceasefire or some kind of arrangement with them, or setting up a New Republic. Plus the Jedi Mk.II have to come into play. The story can continue, but it would just be difficult.
Strictly speaking your logic could have been applied to episodes 1-3, y'know. There was no need to tell those stories either (and in some cases, we wish we hadn't be told them) - afterall, we already knew who Anakin, Ben Kenobi and Yoda were from the OT. There wasn't any real need to go back and see what they were like before the shit hit the fan.
There was a need to go and do the prequels because they are part of the story. The story was only half complete.
The problem with a sequel is setting up a storyline that isnt forced or redundant. Having an aging Luke and co trying to rebuild the galaxy out of the ashes of the fallen Empire is a natural, but how will you introduce a threat? The most obvious one is that there are forces still loyal to the empire that tries to retake it; you would also need to introduce some element of the jedi/sith--perhaps Luke begins a new jedi order, while meanwhile a dark side user rises, naturally siding with the enemy. Essentially, it will be a repeat of the previous story. You'd have to set up a new conflict, develop it and solve it, and it wouldnt really be anything new.
This is aside from the fact that with Episode I-III, the star wars movies are about Anakin Skywalker. His rise and fall alongside the birth of the Empire, ending with his repemption, the Empire's destruction and his death. There simply nowhere left to go once the Empire and him are gone.
But besides that, Lucas is too old nowadays--he would be about 80 before it would be done, and he is interested in other non-star wars things.
