This might have been asked before, but aside from the aesthetic qualities of the glass/plastic/whatever part that covers below the eyes of the Clonetrooper and Fett helmets, is there an actual reason for it? I can't think of why there should be a weaker transparent part covering the nose and mouth if you never see it functioning in some useful way. It seems the Empire corrected this with the Stormtrooper helmets.

It'd be easier to look down, I suppose. I'd think it's a stupid trade to get less protection for a slight increase in visibility.

Might be a thinner coverng for some kind of sensor window for the helmet display.

But why are there the diagonal parts on the Clonetrooper helmet? But now that I look at it, the vertical part for both helmets is wider than what I visualized:

in the case of both helmets, the lower transparencies could cover sensors, or simply be cosmetic, and have proper armor plating underneath.

either way, there's no advantage to having that part be clear for the trooper underneath, so it more than likely wouldn't be.

The diagonal parts of the Clonetrooper helmet is the breath filter.

You should also keep in mind that the helmet visor isn't transparent. It is merely an external sensor that collects visual information which is then displayed by holographic displays on the inside of the helmet for the wearer.

The "T" shape may be one way of allowing the sensors the widest field of view as possible. The underlying technology for the visor might have been miniaturized and split into two parts in the Stormtrooper helmet, perhaps to reduce helmet size and weight or the eyeball shape may improve the helmet's capabilities.

Perhaps. IIRC clonetrooper helmets do not have transparent visors. The clonetroopers seeing using sensor data. So it is possible these cover the actual sensors the clonetrooper uses to see the battlefield.

Some Stormtrooper helmets do have transparent visors, but how they're doled out is unknown. This is attested to in the original Visual Dictionary, and it was gotten from ANH- note that in the scene where Obi-Wan mind tricks the sandtroopers, you can see (from the side) through one of the eye sockets in a helmet out to the background (i.e. through the other one).

I'd imagine the LAAT/i and AT-TE pilots have clear eyeports.
