Best Star Wars Novel

Not Directly the best, but the best in regard to NOT screwing up the Star Wars Galaxy as far as the movies.

I havent read that many but I liked Shadows of the Empire. I liked it for the simple fact that it kept the characters pretty much the same because if they where changed greatly in any way, it would screw up continuty with ROTJ. P;us Xizor seemed like a pretty cool villian.

I don't know about "the best" but my favorites are the Han Solo novels by Brian Daley. They feel very "Star Wars-ish" to me, and they don't screw up anything because they all take place before the OT when Solo was working in the Corporate Sector.

Of course, pretty much the only other EU "novels" I can compare them to are "The Glove of Darth Vader", and the others in that series. *retches*

Cloak of Deception, The last Command or Solo Command.

Stafighters of Adumar- found it to be very (intentionally, not the The New Rebellion) funny.

The entire Thrawn trilogy, but I have not read the last one yet. Shadows of the Empire was not bad, did not like how Vader said good riddens at the end.

For me it was any of the Alliston books. Ton Phannan only appeared in 2 books but he's my favourite non-regular character. I still laugh when i think of the Pirates skit him and Face had with Piggy. And i still get sad when i read about his death.

Ton really was one of my favorite characters from that series.

For me the best books are the ones written by Zahn. Although Allston has been getting better and better at his writing. His NJO books were very well done and I must admint it is VERY funny when R2D2 snuck in Hans Blaster and Lehia's light sabre as "food" into the prison they were in.

I would like to add that I liked Spinter in the Minds Eye.
To me, it seemed to fit pretty well in the Universe

I can't believe it!!! Finally I am not the only one that thinks Cloak of Deception was a great book. The best though for me would be Shadows of the Empire. Many people are saying it, and it's true. The characters still have that feel to them. Vader is looming, the Emperor is spooky and Xizor is just miniacal. Plus we learn a lot about Luke.

I'd have to say the second Han Solo Trilogy by A.C. Crispin. Supposedly Lucas himself gave some fair amount of direction to it and there was really anything of a continuity violation that I can remember. And dang if it doesn't do a nice job of tying things together.

Darth Maul: Shadow Hunter was awesome, creative, original, didn't screw anything up, fun, and most importantly:

It didn't focus on the main characters the whole time like practically everything else in the EU.

It gets my vote.

Itwas a rather depressing book when you realise all the heros efforts are for nought. A fell sorriest for the smuggler. He though'd he'd won when he handed the holocron on to palpy

Yes, but it was very unexpected. A great ending, that made you think about the book for a long time after. The happy ending that is oh so common in the EU wasn't present. It reminded me of the ending of the Terminator, which is a little similar.

Shadows of the Empire by Steve Perry.

I've only read a few other SW novels and I did care for them that much.

There are several graphic novels that I like quite a bit though.

I hated Shadow Hunter. It had a few cool parts. Probably the only part I liked was the ending. Most of it was just plain annoying.
