After the loss of the Executor under less then spectacular performance at the Battle of Endor. The Executor class was built as a super heavy carrier but was being pushed into battleship service against Rebel forces.
To remedy this problem Kaut Drive Yards designed the Executor MK2. The very first thing Kaut did was to remove the carrier and ground forces element to the Executor. This freed up large mounts of volume and mass.
From this point Kaut made two major design improvements to the Executor. First the number of standard weapon mounts was massive increased. Rather then just mounting 500 turbo lasers combined, the Executor now mounts 500 Heavy Turbo Lasers. It also sports 180 capitalship grade concussion missile launchers. The number of point defense weapons was also upgraded.
The second major upgrade involved the creation of a new gun. The Super Heavy Turbo Laser. This weapon is equal to 64 Heavy Turbo Lasers in firepower. This concentrated burst of firepower is sufficient to knock out an entire shield arc on an ISD MK2. The Executor MK2 has two dozen of these weapons. 12 ventral and 12 dorsal.
To power the increase of weapons new hyper-matter reactors were installed. Taking advantage of the new reactors, the number of shield emitter were tripled. Instead of taking an approximate firepower of a half dozen ISDs to overwhelm the Executors shields, the Executor MK2 would have to be assaulted by 18 ISDs for a sustained period of time. Given the MK2s weapon systems it is unlikely it would ever have to weather such firepower for any period of time.

I just wrote this concept up. What do you think?

Where the hell are the new reactors going to go to power all these new weapons?
You need to get a rid of a lot of the comm., shield, and other gear including small hangars and whatever that that vulnerable, unarmored cortex shows. Cover it in terraced armor plates, like the ISD, all the way up to the bridge.
These guys will need a stronger frame, because the hangar pit will be orders of magnitude smaller. That space needs to be filled with a much larger power core, more fuel, and more shield systems.

Look at it. The vast quantity of her volume as far as any feature goes is to the cavernous hangar on the ventral face.

In most other books SSD's only carry 12 squadrons. Including the Executors sister ship. Knight Hammer may well have dropped stuff like the ground forces to increase TIE hanger room. Dalla didn't even think of sending in reinforcements to support the ground troops when she arrived at Yavin 4, she just let lose with the heavy stuff, regardless of who was downstairs (yeah she was a frigen Briliant one that one....)Illuminatus Primus wrote:In Darksabre, the Knight Hammer deploys thousands of TIEs.evilcat4000 wrote:The Executor was not probobly designed as super carrier since it never launched the huge numbers of fighters one would expect from a carrier this big.

Don't be an idiot. Look at the hangar cavity. Perhaps 144 fighters is a minimum complement, but it certainly isn't a reasonable number.Chris OFarrell wrote:In most other books SSD's only carry 12 squadrons. Including the Executors sister ship. You have no evidence the Knight Hammer's hangars were modified, or that any of her ground forces were removed.

I don't care about if YOU think its not a reasnoable number or if YOU think its a minimum complement, what I care about is what officaly sanctioned EU sources say on the matter. And preaty much every novel, RPG, Guide that I have read says that the SSD carries a complement of 144 fighters. The Knight Hammer is an exception from this, not the rule. Iron Fist, Guardian, Lusankya, and Executor are said to carry 144 fighters (12 squadrons) in many sources. Which are offical. You are not.Illuminatus Primus wrote: Don't be an idiot. It's quite absurd to think that an SSD could only take 144 fighters, there must be some colossal engineering foobar for that to work out, I am obliged to think of the 144 figure as minimum spec.
Also, did not saxton prove that the amount of energy weapons on the Executor according to RPG information where also foobared?

Ripple effect clause. I know that's what it says, but this number is caused by a gross underestimation of total size. That inevitably rippled out to cause erroneous estimates of every other value.Chris OFarrell wrote:I don't care about if YOU think its not a reasnoable number or if YOU think its a minimum complement, what I care about is what officaly sanctioned EU sources say on the matter. Which is why I lambast KJA on this. He gets great points if he looks at the film, gets the correct length and size, and based on that voids the official number and comes up with his own. Instead, it is blatantly obvious he can't accept 'reality' and twists the story to his own fancy.
While i agree, that the number of fighters for the Knight-Hammer is closer to what should be expected from a ship of that size and with such a huge hangar-bay the Knight-Hammer is also different from other SSDs for its black-stealth armour.

grrrr
Dalla should have just BDZ'ed the entire planet and moved on. Or just left the Jedi alone and went on about her business of kicking ass...

I have to tell you something everything I wrote above is a lie.
