Relative size of the Eclipse

Okay, we know that the Eclipse is stated to be 16 or so kilometers long. This is slightly shorter than the Executor, though the Eclipse masses more. What I'm thinking is, was the Eclipse intended to be twice as long as an SSD? At the time of Dark Empire's writing, the 8 km SSD figure was widely accepted. Did the author of Dark Empire think he was doubling the Executor's length?

Dark Empire I-6 merely states that Eclipse was ten miles long. It wasn't compared to the Executor class or anything else, size-wise.

Since 8 km was what the authors had to use thanks to WEG.. yes. But since we have pictures of it, and the 10 miles statement, we can place a fixed lenght on it.

Dark Empire was written in 1991, the EGVV said that the Eclipse was twice the length (this was the only writing I have seen that says double the length of an ESD). NOw it is possible that the writers though that it was and it is quite possible that the Executor was supposed to be smaller then and ESD but we know now that it is not. The Eclipse is bigger in mass because of all it can hold and also an axial superlaser.

The nigh-distinct first-of-class, HIMS Eclipse, was probably 17.5 kilometers long. The presumably production-model Eclipse-class, HIMS Eclipse II, was probably 16 kilometers long.

Well, what I was getting at was that the Eclipse's length may be a mistake arising from the earlier WEG error on the Executor. If so, then the author (forget who wrote Dark Empire) may have, in fact, been shooting for 32 kilometers or so without knowing it.

Extrinsic intentions don't have influence on SoD.
