Gents;

Until 10 Feb the Official Site is polling this question:

"Do the discrepancies in Super Star Destroyer lengths concern you?"

Vote now!

Well, I voted, but it doesn't look good... :(

An overwhelming number of people have never even heard of the problem. *sigh*

I'm not surprised. Before I came on here it never bugged me. The majority of fans are casual fans who watch the movies every once in a while and maybe buy a few books. They are not scaling things off the screen or applying principles of physics to their on screen entertainment.

The scale of a SSD is of no concern to me. To me Executor is just a big powerful battleship.

Meh, at the risk of a slipery slope, if the lazy fucks get away with the silly screw up with the SSD, then they'll feel they could get away and be lazy with other screw ups instead of either fixing them or coming up with a rational way to justify it.

Voted. And from being a member at the sw.com bbs since it's inception I'm not surprised at all that most of them have never heard of that problem. I've probably only seen at the most 5 or 6 threads that seriously discuss SW tech. And none of those threads were at the kind of level that SW tech is discussed here.

why do people give a shit about this stuff? I mean who fucking cares? Its not like they're fucking around with character continuity or anything; what effect could the precise length of the SSD have on anything or anyone? This is nerd territory reserved only for Trekkies...

Man, what the fuck are you even doing here if you think that?

Voted. If they are going to release technical manuals and such on Star Wars the least they could do is go by proper scaling from the canon movies and not EU brain bugs.

He appears to be one of those "None of it's real!" people.

In which case, I agree. Zombie, we care. To us, it is important. Accuracy is important because it prevents complications. So shove it.

Star Wars' Canon heirarchy makes things somewhat easier, but do you have any idea how difficult, not to mention irritating it is to work with something whose materials and sources are inconsistant and contradict each other?

Would you hold the same "who gives a shit" attitude about real life naval statistics?

It matters because a ship twice the size should have eight times the volume, more troops, more weapons, more powerful shields, more of anything and that more should change some stories dramatically.

In and of itself, it's a relatively minor irritant. However, it is symptomatic of the mess that has become the Expanded Universe.

Because if they are going to release guide books, that I have to spend my money to buy, they might as well be accurate about it, I mean duh.

Okay, as long as we've registered accounts, shall we go attempt to raise some interest at the official site boards, or are they pretty much immune?

About 2/3 of those who know care somewhat. I'd say that's pretty good.

I vote very much so. It's not that it's a major issue in my life, or even in my appriciation of the movies. I just happen to like the concept of canon being extremely well-defined and lacking such discrepancies.
Note:29% yes, 19% no, the rest are typical fans.

If you want to. We can't organize an invasion, or anything, but we're not in any position to prevent our members from posting what they want at other boards. It's not like we're going to ban our members from registering at Ex Astris Scientia or any other web board.
