Jedi expulsion
I was just watching AOTC, and there's something I can't figure out: why would the Jedi order voluntarily expel somebody? The impression I got was that expulsion comes after a serious violation of their code of ethics, so the expulee would probably not be the nicest and/or safest person to have running loose in the galaxy. Yet, if Dooku is any indication, no memory supression or mind-wipes are performed. So, you end up with a person of questionable character running around with all the skills and abilities of a Jedi, yet free and clear because they essentially let them loose! Are the Jedi that stupid, or did I miss something?

I guess they may go through sone analysis; to make sure these people are not corrupted. If they are not and they are released and become corrupted; the Jedi think he was always likely to fall into shadow. Thats how they must justify their logic.

Perhaps you are confusing Dooku with what Obi-Wan screamed at Anakin; 'You will be expelled from the Jedi Order!'

I always figured that people who were expelled from the order spent the rest of their lives being watched without thier knowledge, not supported by the canon but not contradicted either.Crown wrote:Perhaps you are confusing Dooku with what Obi-Wan screamed at Anakin; 'You will be expelled from the Jedi Order!'

Darth Revan had his mind wiped after the Jedi captured him, upon which he began life anew and became a Jedi.

That does bring up some interesting speculation for Ep III; does Anakin commit some further breach of the jedi code that warrants expulsion, or is it simply his marriage to Padme ? It's going to be interesting
"Of course, what would really happen is that in Game 7, with the Red Sox winning 20-0 in the 9th inning, with two outs and two strikes on the last Cubs batter, a previously unseen meteor would strike the earth, instantly and forever wiping out all life on the planet, and forever denying the Red Sox a World Series victory..."
Really? Where is this from? I mean books, comics or games?Illuminatus Primus wrote:Darth Revan had his mind wiped after the Jedi captured him, upon which he began life anew and became a Jedi.

Remember that even Mace Windu did not believe that an accomplished Jedi such as Dooku could really fall to the Dark Side: he says that "...it's not in his character," when asked whether or not Dooku could be fomenting rebellion. So there's definitely an element of arrogance there.
And you may ask yourself, 'Where does that highway go to?'

Also Jedi have very strong minds, would mind wipes work against them ?Rogue 9 wrote:Hmm. Wouldn't he still be tainted by the Dark Side?Illuminatus Primus wrote:Darth Revan had his mind wiped after the Jedi captured him, upon which he began life anew and became a Jedi.

some of the various sourcebooks state that jedi may choose to leave the order for personal reasons. they return their lightsabers to the council and are then watched carefully in case they turn to the darkside.
there's also a technique that allows Jedi to blind other jedi from the force, so they can no longer use it. however it's rarely done and i think is only mentioned once during the sith war involving exar kun.

His mind got destroyed because of the crash, not because what the Jedi did to him. They actually gave him a past - if he had survived with his mind intact, they wouldn't have done it.Illuminatus Primus wrote:Darth Revan had his mind wiped after the Jedi captured him, upon which he began life anew and became a Jedi.
He was basically brain dead when they found him.
But he/she still still had memories beneath the surface, which came up periodically (the Star Maps, Bastila, Malak, etc.).Slartibartfast wrote:His mind got destroyed because of the crash, not because what the Jedi did to him. But so little it didn't matter to the Jedi Council.YT300000 wrote:But he/she still still had memories beneath the surface, which came up periodically (the Star Maps, Bastila, Malak, etc.).Slartibartfast wrote:His mind got destroyed because of the crash, not because what the Jedi did to him. Literally they recreated a past for Revan that didn't mirrior his/her own and what was saved by Bastilla was all that was left of Revan of old.

I'm pretty sure Dooku wasn't expelled. He quit so he could take his title of Count or something. The former guardian of Ossus was stripped of his powers after some Sith thing corrupted him. I always assumed that really insane Dark Jedi were exiled to uninhabited planets or something, while simply rebellious ones (like how Anakin would've been labeled if he'd jumped from the transport to save Padme) were simply made to give back their saber and kicked out. Given the arrogance displayed by the Jedi in AOTC, I think they really might've just let these go and didn't have them watched.

If memory serves, Ulic Qel-Droma was stripped of his Force powers after allying with Exar Kun, and then betraying him. Jedi obviously have the power to do this kind of thing.
