Anyone else miss Bob Brown's Star Wars discussions?

I for one do, I thought they were a useful resource even if they were whiny and full of OT-purist tripe.

I miss them greatly, particularly because he had promised a lot just before he stopped updating.

His section on the Falcon was simply fantastic.

I whole-heartedly agree. There was a bunch of complaining and weird opinions, but there was a lot of interesting information in there, too.

And like Spanky said, he had a bunch of stuff on the drawing board before calling it quits. The site had been dormant for many moons, and then suddenly there was some cool stuff, esp. his speculation on the origins of the Jedi order.

It's too bad he was crazy.

I tried googling Bob Brown, and I got my country's Greens Leader. Who's Bob Brown (SW)?

He ran http://www.synicon.com.au/sw/ which doesn't exist anymore. :(

Damn! Well, what did he write about?

Robert BK Brown was one of the three or four premiere Star Wars analysts, up there with Saxton, Poe, and Mike. He had a rather in-depth site called B-Squared's Star Wars Stuff, which among other things had a huge section on the Falcon and proposed internal layouts, and one concerning lightsabres: their operation and use, which benefited from his being a Kendo expert.

Unfortunately, he was also an OT canon purest in the strongest sense of the word and let everyone know it in his writings, and after AotC was released, he announced that he had given up on Star Wars completely.

Just about everything. He had an exhaustive analysis of the Milennium Falcon, lightsabres (he insisted on spelling them with an "re"), the TradeFed Battle Droid network, R2-D2, and a bunch of other stuff.

His analyses were very exhaustive and intelligent, but he tended to let his emotions get in the way a lot. You see, he was an Original Trilogy Purist, and he hated the Prequels, the EU, you name it. He felt he knew Star Wars better than George Lucas, and he got really grumpy and dramatic about the whole business, so he quit, and took the site down.

He also had a conflict with Mike a while ago; I'm not sure of the details since I wasn't there, but from what I gather, he refused to concede a physics point even though he was wrong, presumably out of pride. He also didn't like Mike because of Mike's anti-creationism pages, I believe.

Yeah, think of SW analysis in terms of a spectrum...

His site is mirrored somewhere. I don't remember where though.

Anyway, it was fun to read, as long as you skip over the aforementioned purist "I know SW better than GL does" tripe.

Which struck me as odd, or at least unfortunate. Before AOTC came out, he had some cool pages analyzing spoiler information for AOTC (the Jedi Starfighter in particular), and from what I gather, he had even participated as an extra in the AOTC Arena scene. And then, bam, he was gone.

I mean, sure, he was a little crazy (and I know there are people on this board who detested him), but we have our share of crazies here, and I for one was glad to read his stuff, warts and all.

I'd probably fit in somewhere between Mike/Curtis and Bob, although I wholeheartedly agree with Bob about the prequels.

I miss the old mailing list that Curtis, Bob, Mike, and I were on (long before this forum existed). We had some great discussions and exchanges of ideas.

As long as we're talking about the spectrum, I guess I fall in pretty squarely with Mike and Curtis; I follow Mike's rules for suspension of disbelief and determining canonicity.
However, I fucking HATE that Coruscant was destroyed in the NJO (though I don't disregard the NJO as part of the continuity; I just don't like it).

Oh, and IP, your link, she does not work.

I have a really outdated mirror/copy of it on my hard drive, but unfortunately half the images didn't get downloaded. I was going to update it before he closed the site down, but never got around to it.

At least Mike Marincic (the guy who drew up the highly detailed elevations for the Tantive IV and Falcon) is still around.

And yes, his site was indeed interesting to read. He had a lot of good points on it, kind of mixed in with his rants.

Click blind. You do roughly remember the site's lay. The other pages have most of the pictures intact (so far.)

I thought that was a vow of celibacy! You mean I've been abstinent all these years for no reason?! :x

Shit, looks like something was misinterpreted. Sorry about that

Well, it's not too late to make up for lost time. You can start with the East German dominatrix, after she releases your testicles from the Constrictor.
