Nice!
I especially liked how he fixed the 'tip on' look of Obi-Wan's lightsabre and the dull red of Vaders!

I have to wonder why they didn't do this for the Special Editions.

Why didn't LFL do this for ANH:SE? Were they too busy making Greedo shoot first?

LOL, I never noticed Obi-Wan's lightsaber "shorted out" before.

Yeup.
Still, cool blades...and no shorting out.

How could someone not notice that stunning lightsabre gaffe?!?!?!?
It's driven me absoltely insane ever since I first watched it, and the fact that they didn't fix such a stupid bloody error for the ANH:SE (too busy adding a cheap, cheesy looking Jabba I guess) is just a graver insult.

Nice editing. Maybe the guy could apply for ILM.

He got a job with Lucasarts. Check out his website.

And they didn't use his work or at least do something similar for the SE. That's just stupid. If it was a budget problem (which I doubt) they could have cut Jabba (it just doesn't make sense for him to crawl out to Docking Bay 94 under his own power), put Heater in there instead (maintaining consistency with the radio dramas and keep with Jabba's predilection for having others do his dirty work), and saved the FX money to do the lightsabers.

You have to remember, I got this from the Fan Films board. This guy did this for the hell of it in in a couple hours, because someone dared the board to do so!
Someone did another, but it wasn't as good, and the added the "Duel Of The Fates" music to it.

Duel of the Fates just doesn't fit Vader's style of fighting. If I had to come up with a specific theme for Vader's fight scenes it would be more along the lines of a cello/bass melody and percussion. Definitely not a full chorus. Man, its hard to put envisioned music to words. >_<

The special editions were a joke, seriously. They better do better than that for the DVDs.

I noticed this back in the 80's, and it always bugged me.
I'm surprised though that nobody (in all this time) tried to explain this in "official" terms, like that there was a solid element to a lightsaber that projected a plasma field around it or something (nah, just kidding, it's such a blatant error it couldn't possibly...)

You don't understand Suspension of Disbelief.
Scientific analysis discards unreconcilable, one-time errors as instrumentation or experimental failures. When graphing results in scientific studies, a handful of outliers is inevitable, and is discarded.

That was AWESOME! Dorkman is a prick, though, with his one-hand fencing style. How long do you think those guys had to practice to get that good?

The lightsabers didn't score the concrete, though. Point-two deduction.
4.7/5.

Yeah, the sabers should have mauled the floor. And what did he think he was playing at, one handed with the other behind his back? This ain't the frickin' fencing club.

The thing on the floor was kinda dumb. But the effects were quite good.

I liked best the idea of Force stabbing by activating the lightsaber.

You guys need to get out more
Or...well, anyway.
Ryan Wieber is probably the forerunner for AfterEffects compositing work connected with TheForce.Net's FanFilms theater. As someone involved in digital effects including compositing and rotoscoping, I have a lot of respect for the work he's done so far, as well as his willingness to share his techniques and methods with the rest of the community. You should check out some of the other TF.N fanfilms. Broken Allegiance, KnightQuest, Duality, and Legacy of the Jedi all exhibit great lightsaber duels and are fairly entertaining. The Formula is arguably
the best independent film (it's a fanfilm...but not quite...) I've seen in a while.
