No nationalism?

Post by Dark Primus »

I do find it strange, if the entire galaxy saw the Yuuchan Vong as an intruder, why didn't the galaxy unite against them?
Was it because New Republic political leaders refused to lead the galaxy to war because they were afraid that would escalate the conflict?

I thought when I read about Fondor was attacked, a full scale war was going to be declared by the New Republic upon the YV. What do they do instead? The fucking politicians babble on who should take the blame for the attack instead of blaming the aggressors themselves. They don't blame the YV they blame each other. WTF!

I think the writers are so full of themselves sometimes. It is like Pearl Harbor scenario, Japan attacks PH but USA don't declare war but instead the politicians argues on who should take the blame.

After the attack on Fondor the YV made their intention clear to the rest of the galaxy. And all the factions in the galaxy who are capable of fighting would probably have united against the intruders.

Just my opinion though, nothing more or less.

No no, the nationalism was manifesting in all the little interspecies and interplanetary brushfires, what with groups wanting out from under galactic hegemony, no matter what form it may take.

Legacy of Star Trek? On the writers part?
They say, "the tree of liberty must be watered with the blood of tyrants and patriots." I suppose it never occurred to them that they are the tyrants, not the patriots. Those weapons are not being used to fight some kind of tyranny; they are bringing them to an event where people are getting together to talk. -Mike Wong

But as far as board culture in general, I do think that young male overaggression is a contributing factor to the general atmosphere of hostility. It's not SOS and the Mess throwing hand grenades all over the forum- Red

I blame the NR.

If the YV had invaded while the Empire was in power, they would have been slaughtered. I wonder also, if the Rebels in thier blind hated against the Empire would have steped so low to ally themselves then with the YV.

The Rebels, probably not. They were genuine idealists for the most part and were a pretty decent lot, if naive as hell. I doubt they would seek the help of a bunch of genocidal maniacs with a fanatical religious streak for that reason alone.

The NR, on the other hand, was infested with career political parasites and plain old idiots. Those were the guys primarily responsible for the enormous clusterfuck that was the New Republics dealings with the Vong.

How would the Rebels have allied themselves with the tech-hating YV fundies? Even if they tried, the YV would reject their offer.
