Daala slept with Tarkin?

I keep hearing that the only way Daala got her rank was because she slept with Tarkin. Which of the KJA books is this from? I only read the first book in the Jedi Search trilogy, so my knowledge of KJA's pocket of the SW unvierse is (thankfully) limited.

I she had not, she would have only become some low-ranking officer, nothing more.

IIRC, it's first mentioned in the second book in the trilogy. However, as bad as this sounds, it doesn't gold a candle to Ysanne Isard. Rumor has it (in-universe, anyway) that she had "relations" with the Emperor himself.

Hey, supposedly power is the greatest aphrodisiac. And boy, it would have to be.

Perhaps Isard slept with a young clone of Palpatine. He did mention that he had already been changing bodies before his death on the second Death Star.

Perhaps it's just a rumour. Because it certainly doesn't seen remotely plausable at all.
I seriously doubt that by the time of the OT Palpatine was much in public view or by Imperials other than his inner circles.
Though wasn't Isard also psychotic? And what characters are the source for the rumour?

No clue. Horn mentions hearing the rumor once or twice, though.

The only real reference is Dalla remembering her promotion and a lower officer suggesting that how she got her job and how Tarkin saw to it that the man was corected for his opinion. It never says she actually ever did it

... unless she's a borderline necrophile. (or that her red left eye actually is a denotation of seriously impaired vision)

So in other words.... the whole "Daala-screwed-Tarkin" is not canon nor official... but
fanon along with Palpatine's alleged first name?

No.
It's an
in-universe rumour, in that it is mentioned in the EU, but presented so that its factual integrity is dubious.

Well considering that she is an inept dumb bitch, I personally find no other explanation as to how she managed to secure her promotion.

Haven't they written at least in a few character guides that she was Tarkin's mistress?
I do remember at least in Tarkin WoTC entry that he had Daala as a mistress...so unless that's been refuted, I'm going with that given her rank as well as placement at the Maw.

Which begs the question; was she extraordinarily
good or embarisingly
bad in order to get that promotion/assignment?

Good in bed...her track record speaks for how bad.
Sorry, Stormbringer brought it best when he said she was the best Imperial commander the New Republic ever had.

How very true.

Isard certainly seems to had a relationship with the Emperor on a personal basis, and Isard's Revenge certainly paints that picture.
And as said, the Emperor is not always old and decrepit. He periodically assumes a fresh clone body. His body acquired immediately after his death in the clone chamber at Byss was "developmentally" fifteen years old.

So ... how long has Palpatine been around then?

Probably not that long...since he required most likely at least the resources of a higher position then Chancellor to explain a change in look.
As Emperor he could disappear for a while and communicate through the Holo net when need be.

Palpatine's been assuming clone bodies since at least shortly before the Battle of Yavin.

Daala did reportidly have some tatical talent. After she attended the accademy on Cardia she was posted to a low ranking assistant. She forged a false identidy and started playing war games through the Cardia system. Tarkin heard about this mystery war gamer and hired a slicer to track her down. When he found her he promoted her and sent her to the Maw.
After the JA trilogy she alludes to a more presonal relationship with Tarkin but no specifics. She did end up meeting up with her former lover at the climax of the Planet of Twilight.

Also, Daala hereself in the JA Trilogy mentally says she never took a lover in the Maw Installation, because after Tarkin, memories were enough

Peter Cushing can have that effect.
