Star Wars Governments

Post by Tychu »

i was just thinking about it and thought i would like to get others opinions of the subject or some of the things i missed.
In the Star Wars universe we see areas having the same types of governments found on Earth. There are no new types of governements that can only work or exist in an advanced civilization that just isnt possible. We have theology (Vong, Ithorian, Yevetha) Confederate Republic (Old Republic, Seperatists) Monarchy (Naboo) Matriarch Monarchy (Hapes Constortium) Militaristic (Chiss, Bothan) The Hutts kind of have a Commercial and Monarch type of government.

If anyone has any "new" type of government not found on Earth please feel free to put them in.

Well, the Kaminoan government is IIRC a council of governors of Kamino's various offworld colonies, with one of these governors acting as Prime Minister. Basically a parlamentarian system, but we don't know whether they are elected by the populace, or if it's a USSR-like one-party system. (The latter is possible, since Kamino's gov't seems to a great deal of direct control over the industry)

And the Geonosians live in some sort of monarchistic caste system.

I don't think the government on Naboo is a monarchy, in Episode 1, the Queen of Naboo is elected - hardly something that determines rulership by an accident of one's birth.

As I wrote in this thread (http://bbs.stardestroyer.net/viewtopic.php?t=42002) the kings of Sweden was elected by the nobility before the title became hereditary in the 16th century. Monarchy is also a form of government which is class-dependent. One must also make a distinction between an absolute monarchy and a constitutional monarchy (such as Sweden). There are also countries today which are monarchies and where the monarch are elected for example Cambodia (kingdom), Malaysia (kingdom), Samoa (where the next chief will be elected for a five year term) and let's not forget, the Vatican (a church monarchy).
