Why no extended editions of Star Wars films?

Post by Meest »

Minor Spoiler WarningThe opening battle sequence of Ep3 is rumoured to be trimmed down, violence intensity wise and length.

Given the succuss of LOTR and the quality of the deleted scenes in Ep2 especially (IMO the best acted and would have greatly made the film more believable) and Lucas' money whoring of special editions, why not offer full director cuts of the movies?

As opposed to what?

Lucas wants to forget the originals existed so his new versions are going to be the equivalent of director's cuts.

I'd buy EEs the instant they came out.

Ditto. Extended editions would just give you more Star Wars greatness. 8)

AotC could benefit from the reinsertion of the scenes at the home of Pademe's parents. Making it more clear that she is falling for Anakin before they even get to Naboo would be good, plus it was one of the few relationship/romance building scenes that came off well. Plus, it shows that hotness runs in Padme's family. :)

Now the DVD of the Phantom Menace is essentially the extended edition buecause there's bunch of stuff added back into and around the pod race. Granted there is more stuff that could have been added back in but generally with EPI and EPII some of the really cool stuff is stuff we never get to see even in deleted scenes.

Darth Maul following Qui Gon to the ship and Qui Gon having to cut the edge of the platform off to get rid of him.

More of the light sabre battle between Count Dooku and Obi Wan. More of the fight between Count Dooku and Yoda (where's the two light sabre thing?).

I'd buy at least the AotC EE, perhaps event he TPM one depending on what has been added.

BTW Meest, you need to make your spoilers smaller, they are still readable as they are now.

The difference being is that the original cuts are still available, when one releases a director's cut.

Remember that EE's Peter Jackson style are NOT Director's Cuts but rather Extended cuts intended for the viewer who doesn't mind sitting through a longer movie. Jackson has said on numerous occassions that the Theatrical Cuts ARE the Directors Cuts.

Good, because those are the better cuts.

The pacing is better and the story is tighter.
