I was thinking on the attack of the team against the shield generator on Endor. Instead of using a team, why not go the quick and dirty way. Simply arm the shuttle with some heavy weaponry and blow the generator. They were inside the shield and as soon as the shield goes down, send the main force in

Only runs into a slight problem.

This assumes that the sensors on the ISDs and SSD don't detect a weapon powering up(They tewll the controllers to keep the shield down until the shuttle passes the line in which it's inside)as well as the saying the shield generator facility itself doesn't have defenses.

Well, the shuttle disapearing will cause a problem itself.

I am thinking not really an energy weapon but a bomb, eather the shuttle as a bomb or the shuttle fires a missile.

Wouldn't landing that far from the facility (which is shown to have a landing pad) when they were supposed to be carrying "parts and technical crew for the forest moon" tip off the Imperials that something isn't right? (it was a trap of course, but why would the alliance make a plan that would raise such an alarm?)

I think the question is whether the Imperials could have detected any kind of explosive powerful enough to destroy the shield generator from the outside, as well as possible air defenses.

It might have been routine for shuttle flights to go directly into the forest. Maybe to setup remote comm relays and/or sensor packages. What were the stormtroopers doing before they jumped them? Anyway, they weren't a secret for long. Palpatine's foresight notwithstanding, the base would have been on an elevated alert status when the sentries didn't return.

...But they knew anyway, so it's really a moot point. The only thing stronger than Rebel desperation is Imperial arrogance. Or vice versa, it depends on the battle.

For parts and technical personnel, that could have been due to Imperial sensors. The Imperial ships could have scanned the shuttle (even use it as a training drill), and they would detect several people, and lots of equipment (likely using shielding to make it look like large equipment).

Also, if they used the shuttle as a kamikazi, they could have said something like 'energy systems', and gotten through. But that would require a kamikazi pilot and crew to accomplish, and would have been frowned upon by the Alliance, likely.

But even if they had tried a kamikazi attack, surely the Imperials would have some kind of anti-aircraft defences? Scramble some fighters maybe? Shoot it down? Anything?

well, it is generating a huge amout of energy to shield the death star, would it really be that hard/more expensive to have it project a shield around itself?
Maybe that's why the plan called for blowing it up from the inside.

They seemed to be carrying a huge amount of explosives and additional personnel. That creates question on my part.
