Found this on ASVS.

You all seem to buy the idea that the Death Star uses raw energy to
rip planets apart. Hoewver this has one very simple flaw: even if you
can pull a huge amount of energy (such as the often-cited 10^38 joules
needed to blow up Alder Aan) out of a magic hat, there's still one
problem: TRANSPORTING that energy. Once you've got that much energy,
it should rip your Death Star to shreds. To contain and focus all the
energy into that beam would require another huge amount of energy, to
contain that would require even more, etc. Therefore, DS does not use
direct energy transfer.

I've read stories about ASVS in it's heyday. Wouldn't you guys have already strung that troll up by his toes or somthing?

Our ranks are thin, and I pulled this off of Google, so if there have been replies I haven't seen them yet.

This is like saying tank armor must require huge amounts of energy to stop bullets, or that internal combustion engines must require a huge amount of energy to "contain and focus" the energy released by the fuel.
In other words, he's a fucking idiot. How does he think a tank fires its main gun? With Gridfire?

A better analogy is that the Battery holds all of the power to run a car. So does that mean that if hit by a bullet it will explode?

a battery is not volotile enough to explode upon impact.
Also a note on the combustion engine. It is desinged to handle small repeative explosions. It does heaat up alot but no where enar what some of the exotic mateiral the engines of scifi hold.
