What is a VT-16?

Post by VT-16 »

Been lurking for quite some time, and finally decided to join. To bad my first post is a question, but, there you go.

"- Have you seen that new VT-16?

- Yeah, some of the other guys have been telling me about it, they say it´s... it´s quite a thing to see...."
I´m a bit fascinated with this mystery object (hence my nick), but I can´t seem to find any information on it. So, I ask, what is it?

A tank, a spacecraft, a blaster?

Feed me knowledge, O great ones! :P

The two stormies in casual conversation when Ben deactivates the tractor beam were talking about it, IIRC.

Considering their isnt any ship or vehicle in all the EU with that name, I would say it was probably just a new prototype blaster weapon or something like that and it probably just never entered production for whatever reason. That might explain why its never seen or mentioned anywhere after that.

Since they seem to be talking about something that is of interest to them, it´s possible that it´s some form of ground unit instead of a space-based vehicle/weapon.

EDIT: Ok, that seems logical.

It might be something that has nothing to do with weapons.

I thought it was BT-16

hinting at the tie bomber just comming out.

of course I could be wrong. The T could stand for anything But Tie does fit. Also There is the Vehicle T-16 and it could be a combat version of it.

Hmm, a combat airspeeder... Hey, there´s more than enough room aboard the DS to take it for a spin.

Funny thing is, I swear I saw some entry for it in an online SW-encyclopedia, but I can´t find it again.

I thought it was BT-16
That´s a perimeter defence droid, I think. (Like the spider-droid in ROTJ)

They said T-16 IIRC.

They're talking about a Skyhopper, a recreational aircraft.

(It's the model luke was holding while 3P0 was getting his oil bath.)

I remember when I used to have that many posts... no wait, I don't. Nevermind.

Anyway, I'd say it's either some new infantry weapon, or a hot rod civ. vehicle.

Clearly VT-16 is the ID code of the newest recruit and first female stormtrooper.

From Star Wars: The Annotated Screenplays, ISBN 0-345-40981-7 (which presents the films' dialogue verbatim in screenplay form; they're not just shooting scripts) :

INT. DEATH STAR - POWER TRENCH
Suddenly, behind Ben a detachment of stormtroopers marches to the power trench. Ben remains in the shadows as they move to within a few feet of him.
OFFICER: Give me regular reports, please.
FIRST TROOPER: Right.
All but two of the stormtroopers leave.
FIRST TROOPER: Do you know what's going on?
SECOND TROOPER: Maybe it's another drill.
Ben moves around the tractor beam, watching the stormtroopers as they turn their backs to him and chat. Ben gestures with his hand toward them as the troops think they hear something in the other hallway. With the help of the Force, Ben deftly slips past the troopers and into the main hallway.
FIRST TROOPER: Have you seen that new BT-sixteen?
SECOND TROOPER: Yeah, some of the other guys were telling me about it. They say it's, it's quite a thing to ... What was that?
FIRST TROOPER: That's nothing. Top gassing. Don't worry about it.
And you may ask yourself, 'Where does that highway go to?'

Unofficial, not nonexistant. It does have errors - but at least they provide the sources so you can check for yourself. In this case, *shrug*
