WEG stats

Post by Vympel »

Do WEG stats conform to SW canon at all?

I don't know if these are WEG stats; if anyone knows do tell:

Imperator II-class Star Destroyer:
50 Heavy Turbolaser Batteries
50 Taim & Bak XX-9 Heavy Turbolasers (computer assisted targeting)
20 Borstel NK-7 Ion Cannons (computer assisted targeting)
10 Phylon Q7 Tractor Beam Projectors
Now then:

Where do the Six Heavy Turbolaser Turrets fit in? (model, SW:ICS)
Where do the two Ion Cannon Turrets fit in? (model, SW:ICS)
Where do the two brim trench Quad HTL turrets fit it? (model, SW:ICS)
Where do the dorsal axial defense turrets fit in (model, SW:ICS)
Where do the "turbolaser stations" fit in (model, SW:ICS)

We see four types of shots in canon:

short-length
medium-length
ship-length

All of these bursts come from nowhere near the dorsal heavy turrets. As such, could it be that the above stats might actually have some hope of being correct; barring of course the omission of the obvious weapons seen on the model?

How much research did they actually do?

Should we use these stats at all?

seeing as WEGs ISD diagram didn't even show the heavy turrets I guess their research was incredibly lazy if it existed at all

These stats should be thrown out altogether. WEG pretty much pulled them out of its ass.

They're stats designed to make gameplay easier for the players. At best, they simply show the relative strength of the ISD to other ships in the Imperial fleet that weren't shown onscreen, even if the actual stats are off.

There are several ways to handle them:

1.) The stats are not totally inclusive. Not surprising, since WOTC has modified the ISD armaments recently to include point defense lasers. Since there are "known" elements to the armament that are canonical, they are default included regardless of what WEG says. But at the same token they are not EXCLUDED explicitly, so there is no contradiction in including them.

2.) Conversely, we can assume its a different "subclass" of the ISD hull, or a variant of the hull in a different fashion. Subclasses of all known vessels are known to exist for the most part. While the "canon" armaments take precedent, this doesnt mean that the "WEG" variants cannot exist as well.

I always felt that they were not included b/c they would be too powerful for the RPG. "Ok, your transport is hit by the HTL turret and blown to smithereens, .Make new characters" The first edition of the WEG ISD didn't include shield or hull strengths, b/c it was 'too powerful' for the characters to have a chance against anyway. They only detailed the light weapons that would be employed against a small team of rebels in a light transport.
