Most Sci-fi series have the "Standard" life supporting planet be more or less earth-like. I would expect some unique planets. I see very few 'Standard' planets including through the novels. Do you think there planets exist in large numbers?

Well, off the top of my head there's:

Corellia, Ammund, Dathomir, Dantooine, Naboo, and Ord Mantell are earth-like just off the top of my head.

Keep in mind how many planets are involved in the SW galaxy. It's quite possible there's an enormous number of Earth-like planets, but we only hear about a few of them because throughout the series we only hear about a tiny fraction of the galaxy.

On Naboo, what is the percentage of surface water on the planet.
Datoonine would be a godo example but it really never seem to have had a major population.

I need to add that I am looking at planets with good sized populations, say at least 50 million.

One item that always made me curious was the first of the X-wing novels, the planet which they had to take out the shield generator. It seemed to be an earth like planet, close to Corescant, yet very low population. Based on how long the Galactic Republic has been in existance, this makes little sense.

Borleias was a planet of little importance. The reason it was not settled was simply because no one was willing to. With the number of habitable planets in the galaxy, not every single one must be taken. Borleais became a minor Imperial outpost, but it was located near an important Ordinace/Repair Depot (ORD) at Miriit.

There are a whole bunch of Earth-like planets in the SW galaxy. Coruscant, Corellia, Ord Mantell, Corulag, Brentaal, Esseles, Kuat, Ruan, Empress Teta, Spira, Nubia, Alderaan, Chandrilla, Abregado-Rae, Bastion, Tanaab, Teyr, Commenor, Eriadu, Thyferra, etc... all have Earth-like environments.

I thought Kuat was built over into a factory-world, and Thyferra was a "jungle world".

Kuat is totally normal planetside.

Thyferra is definitely warmer and lusher than Earth.

Yeah, I guess that many natives in an advanced society make it a jungle-full normal planet. Yavin is a jungle.

Let's see... normal planets...

It is a concept of stellar geography, the life supporting planets closer to major planets should be settled before those further away.

Ever play Masters of Orion, don't you settle the closer planets first?

Think of the Vikings, they would jump from island to island.

Or a metropolis, where all land capable of supporting an infrastructure and buildings (or is easily changed to a state where it is capable of it) is quickly built over with suburbs.

Any habitable worlds "near" to Coruscant should be prime real estate, worth gazillions.

There is also earthlike Axxila which is becoming quickly a city-planet on the level of Coruscant.

Also Alderaan.

(What! It still counts! )

We cant be sure if Alderan was Earth like since we never it's surface.

Maybe you meant Yavin 4....Yavin was gas giant planet.

We see it from orbit, which with the existance of the Alderaanians, is enough to deduce that Alderaan is Earth-like in nature.

Plus we do have images of it's surface, from the book The Illustrated Star Wars Universe.

When you can easily reach worlds that are relatively more valuble (in terms of habitability and/or resources) with only a hardly noticeable increase in travel time, why settle for less? Also, colonisation projects which becomes abandoned, or planets which were at one time "quarantined" for research, could explain the presence of some habitable but uninhabitted planets.
