The Unifying Force we all know to be the New Jedi Order series finale and many feared that, save for the Clone Wars novels, it would be the last EU book ever published. We now know that to be false, that Shelly Shapiro at Lucas Books in conjunction with the writer of NJO's Star by Star, Troy Denning, is hard at work at a trilogy that will continue the Star Wars saga past the end of the NJO and the Yuuzhan Vong Invasion.

The first book of Denning's trilogy will not be released until the Spring of 2005 - meaning that we have a year to speculate on what will happen to those in that Galaxy Far, Far, Away, from the Skywalkers and the Solos to the Galactic Alliance and the Yuuzhan Vong. This thread will act as a place of discussion, where we at SD.NET can speculate, debate, and any 'ates towards Denning's trilogy prior to its release - Spoilers are welcome, but to the risk of the casual reader.

Let the Post-NJO Discussion Thread begin.

I'll get the ball rolling. Essentially, from clues dropped during interviews with Denning and Shapiro, we know that following will appear in Denning's trilogy.

* Luke, Han and Leia will have a critical role to play, but Jacen and Jaina will definitely not be shoved into the background. - Troy Denning, force.net message boards.

* The trilogy will focus on the survivors of TUF - Sue Rostini, TOS boards.

* Ben Skywalker will appear - Troy Denning, swendirect interview (www.swendirect.com. Its somewhere oin the site archives).

* There will be at least one new major character - Troy Denning, swendirect interview.

* There will be more than one new character - Shelly Shapiro, TOS boards.

* The villains have a history with Star Wars and will be "different." - Troy Denning, force.net boards and swendirect interview.

* There will be many funerals - Denning, swendirect interview.

* The Chiss will factor into the trilogy - Shelly Shapiro, TOS boards.

* There will be some explanation of the whole Chak Fel/Soontir only have five kids, not six in the trilogy issue - Shelly Shapiro, TOS boards.

* The trilogy will see one (possibly more) of the characters go through the Campbellian Mythology structure: the hero at the end of his/her journey. Additionally, the Mythology sees the hero coming to an understanding that good and evil are two parts of the same system - Denning, swendirect interview.

* Leia's Jedi status will be looked at (and hopefully put in concrete, for those who wish to dispute it) - Troy Denning, NJOE interview

* Following the events and revelations concerning the Force through the NJO, the Jedi will now be trying to figure out how to deal with this and what they should do. - Troy Denning, NJOE interview

* Zonama Sekot will "sort of" appear - Denning, swendirect interview.

* The Unknown Regions, like the Chiss, will figure into the trilogy - Shelly Shapiro, TOS boards.

* The trilogy will take place five or so years after TUF - Shelly Shapiro, TOS boards.

* There will be new classes of ships - Denning, swendirect interview.

* Like the Old and New Republics before it, the Galactic Alliance will also be having a tough time trying to keep their various members together, as well as rebuilding the galaxy - Troy Denning, NJOE interview

Is the Imperial Remnant a full member of the GFFA? Who else joined? Are any big players OUT of the GFFA?

Allied - yes. Members - I'm not sure.

We got the laydown on the political situation from Talon Karrde at the end of TUF. Essentially a lot of the guys that were on top before Vector Prime ended up on the bottom. This included, if memory serves me correctly:

* Kuat (Thanks to Shesh's betrayal)
* Hutts (Thanks to the Non-Agression Pact)
* Corellia (Thanks to Thrackan-Sal Solo)

On the way up are:

* Imperials (Thanks to Pellaeon)
* Hapans (Thanks to Tenel Ka)
* Bothans (due to Fey'lya's sacrifice and Krey'fey's popularity)
* Mon Cal

Although they allied with the GFFA in Force Heretic I and were crucial to the final stages of the Yuuzhan Vong war, Pellaeon told Leia and Han at the end of TUF that he had much work to do convincing the Moffs to work openly with the Alliance.

Did they ever explain how the Bothans could resolve their declaration of total war/extinction of the Vong with the peaceful surrender at Coruscant?

Also, it didn't seem to me that Corellia was really damaged during the war. They still have a large population and extensive shipyards.

Where/what did he say about the Unknown Regions, the Chiss, and new ships?

That i think should be one of the main points. You've got a species that's up there with the Mon Cals on being realted to the NR and they could become the bad guys, it would be the first time something like this has happened (AFAIK).

By bad guys i don't just mean like Fey'la politics style bad guys i mean full on bad guys.

That would be cool, but I have a feeling crappy EU writers will drop the thread.

Only 5 years huh? Wouldnt it be wiser to fast forward maybe 15-20, so's there might actually be a sense of change? (plus avoiding yet another child jedi.... havent we suffered enough in that regard?? )

Okay I checked on theforce.net and look at the book schedule.

Book 1 is due out July 2005 and follows with two month intervals (meaning that Book 2 is due out September 2005 and Book 3 in November).

Alright, more info came from Comic-Con and I just finished reading the report posted at theforce.net/books:

It was revealed yesterday at a Comic Con panel that Aaron Allston and Troy Denning will both be contributing to a 9 book post-NJO series. A third author has yet to be announced. Allston will be writing three of the books which will come out in 2006. More details to come!
Update! It should be noted that this is the series that was originally meant to be in the KOTOR era. It remains to be seen how much of a connection this series will have to Denning's already-announced post-NJO paperback trilogy, coming out next year.

On a side note:

For those of you who were excited at the prospect of the Old Republic series, Sue Rostoni confirmed that there are still books planned for this era.

And why do we have to contrive new stories by making the good guys weak and incompetant, why must the Alliance STILL have stability problems? Its contrived and stupid.

The galaxy has just been invaded and pounded, the main government shattered, it's not surprising that a new one only a few years old won't be the most stable.

Why not? They're dependent on a pooling of the collective resources to survive and repair now--they even were forced into bed with the Empire because of this. Not to mention such a disaster should harden the Alliance's politics.

What's even more contrived is that despite this stupidity and weakness, they can win. The Vong are luckier than the Empire in this respect - they are actually entitled to cause losses on Rogue Squadron.

Almost all the EU's faults are the product of trying to cheaply ape the films. Including that.

Yes, but these are still the same people who bicked when the New Republic was around even if they are forced into such a group. Considering how the politicos of the GFFA were portrayed in the EU, I'd be amazed if they'd work together like they should.

Many of the incompetent politicians have been discredited for collaboration or for robbing Coruscant's defense of materiel.

As Kerrigan would say, the chaff has been seperated from the wheat, so to speak. Indeed, in many ways the YV invasion was one of the best things to happen to the SW Galaxy; it allowed a clean slate to start from that outdid the foundation of the NR.
