As for the lava surfing thing, I don't really remember anything like that on TF.N's "Just the Facts" section, so for now I'll call BS.

IIRC, in a chat a while ago, Rick McCallum said that the title WASN'T Birth of the Empire, which is a rumored title that has been floating around since Ep II came out.

Observe that the Slashdot source is The Sun. I'm not ruling this all out, but I'm taking it with a big grain of salt.

I'd have preferred Fall of the Jedi. It would work so well in parallel to Return of the Jedi.

"Birth of the Empire" is a better sounding title than "Attack of the Clones". So it is an improvement.

Perhaps it should mention both, that way you can get the whole saga from the titles.

Hmmm, there's a Phantom Menace. Now the Clones are Attacking. (Insert Ep3 title). Ok, now there's a New Hope. Oh no! The Empire is Striking Back. Luckily the Jedi have Returned.

Sounds stupid, but it makes sense to me.

Revenge of the Sith is my choice. It contrasts well with Return of the Jedi and it illustrates that while "the Jedi don't seek revenge" (GL's reason for changing the title of ROTJ), the Sith do.

I don't know, I like "Rise of the Empire" if that is indeed the central premise of the movie. It's better than "Birth of the Empire."

"Revenge of the Sith" is a good one.

I want them to use "Sith" in a title. They already used "Empire" in TESB. It's time for the Sith to see their name in lights.

Besides, the storyline in Episode III basically represents the culmination of the Sith's millennia-old vendetta against the Jedi. The focus should be on them rather than the "Empire."

We all know it's going to be something like "The Robots of Death" or "Danger Jar Jar Binks!" or "The Day the Republic Ended" or "It Came From Beyond the Outer Rim" etc.


If it has the word's "Empire" "Rise", "Fall" or "Jedi" in it I don't believe it.

This occurred to me while I was shopping, since Lucas likes old school names, how about:

Star Wars: Empire vs. Jedi.

Either "Rise of the Empire" or "Revenge of the Sith" would be a better title.

"Birth of the Empire" doesn't sound that bad to me, although I'm think "Rise of the Sith/Empire" sounds better.

I looked up the article in the Sun. I thought the title was "Page 3 Girl".

That isn't at all an "old school" title, since it doesn't really at all reflect any evocation from 30s space opera serials.

I personally haven't had any problems with any of the past titles for the films.

Ah but there's where you are wrong. Plenty of serials & old B-movies from the 1930's-40's (not just "space operas") include ____ vs. ____ in the title.

So you may have hit on something there...!

Except that B-movies aren't what Lucas is aiming to evoke with Star Wars: specifically he's doing 30s space opera serials (even more specifically it's Flash Gordon).

While the terms "B-movie" and "space opera" are occasionally related, they aren't interchangable.

So please switch off your smartass mode, you damn n00b purist.

I could have sworn that Revenge of the Sith was meant to Episdoe IIIs working title, or am I thinking of Revenge of the Jedi being VIs working title...or am I just imagining things?
