Call to Action!

For the last few years, technically minded fans have been attacked by the SW community. Led by people like Pablo Hidalgo, the editors, authors, and publishers of Star Wars material have run rough-shod over continuity, technical concerns, and even the films themselves in their never-ending desire to pander to the "fairy-tale" mythos of the Star Wars universe. Pablo has been a particularly bad offender, dismissing technical concerns with a smirk and ignoring realism in favor of his fantasy land. The trend is clear, and the problems will only get worse unless we, the fans, manage to do something about them. Today, we have that opportunity. On the SW.com forums (whose full urls I find too repugnant to post here), Pablo Hidalgo has issued his challenge:
Hidalgo wrote: I will make a request. If I've angered, disappointed or otherwise illicited a reaction, please WRITE to the Insider. Let them know! Tell them to fire me! Or give me a raise! Or print a retraction. Or something.

I'm afraid internet reaction is largely meaningless compared to the power of a well-penned letter, and the true scope of fan reaction to my answer would best be measured by letters to the editor.

ph
I ask everyone who cares at all about these issues to send in letters and concerns. Mine is already in the mail (I actually had sent one before he posted this). Please join me in denouncing these recent events and join in the outcry against recent statements made in Insider and elsewhere. This is our chance, and we'll probably only get one of them. Let's make it work.

I can't believe his arrogance. He deserves the boot for his treatment of you guys.

I'm not a big techie, but even I can see the errors of his ways. I fear though that he will win through in the end: by making this a penned-letter-only finalie, he basically eliminates the majority of people who simply won't write a letter due to laziness. He will thus receieve around five letters, and probably gloat audibly in his next Insider collumn as a result.

Maybe you should post this around other forums as well, Ossus? I doubt people at SD.net are the only people outraged by this.

Probably, which is why we need to try and show him up at his own game.

By all means, spread the word. If you're also upset about this, PLEASE post it everywhere on the internet that you can. The more people that read this, the more potential letter-writers there are.

Do you mind if I copy your post over to SB.com, Ossus? I realise that many here have reservations about that forum...

Consider it done.

Not at all. Please do, in fact. If even one more person writes a letter as a result, it will be worth it.

Done. Here's hoping we get a positive response, although I expect it will merely be a thread for people to mock us for getting annoyed with this issue.

What, like last time when someone posted a thread about the SSD length fuckups and nobody gave a shit?

Wait, what are we outraged about?

A dipshit who works for Lucas has been shitting on us.

Regardless of what the majority thinks, as Ossus said, I am sure there will be half a dozen or so that actually care about this. Hopefully one or two enough to actually do something about it.

I'm a bit worried about this

If I write something, I wonder whether that bastard Hidalgo and Co. will "edit" our letters all beyond recognition and then "comment" (ie: ridicule) it "editorially" on the Insider.

By the way, who should I address it to?

"To Whom it May Concern"?

If he does that, we'll just take it to the internet and then back to Insider.

I just addressed mine to SW Insider. Your method is just as good, I'm sure. Thanks for your help.

Gents;

Don't send anything to Paizo Publishing. They are losing the contract for SWI. I haven't found out who's going to publish it now.

What? Fuck Pablo. Someone who's managed to hold onto their SW.com account ask him where the hell to send letters, then.

Anyone who hasn't posted there (in the "offending" threads) should ask Pablo nicely what address they can send mail to, to congratulate him on the awesome job he's been doing.

EDIT: anyone want to direct complaints directly at Lucasfilm or Georgie? In the Lucasfilm site I found this:
What is Lucasfilm's address?
Lucasfilm is located in Marin County, California. The mailing address for Lucasfilm is P.O. Box 10228, San Rafael, CA 94912.

Correspondence to George Lucas can be mailed to Lucasfilm at the address above. All requests for interviews are handled by Lucasfilm's Publicity Department.
Of course everybody probably knows it by now.

I'd make fun of you for even getting it, but I like Ghostbusters 2, so I'd be making fun of myself by extension.

Hey, I know ghostbusters 2. But I also know that it detracts from my coolness.

I still wouldn't throw it around as a snappy retort to someone with a genuine grievance, though. That's just lame.

I just have one question: What do I put in my letter? I've never written a letter to express my anger at a business before.

Stickied since this seems worthwhile.
